    2. Janet Flemming
    3. Please if you are a FLEMING male do the Y Test at www.smgf.org and get the discount code to do then redo the Y test at RG www.relativegenetics.com Doing the SMGF is a bonus as the latest news from the lab (found out today) is that they are also testing males for both the Y and the MT DNA on all the male samples that they receive.. so eventually the results on the SMGF data base will show what was passed on from both your FATHER and your MOTHER...... previously it was just your father! It is still FREE so to your advantage to go and do the SMGF test... even if you have already done the Y test at RG. to sum up... SMGF do free tests for females (mt) and males (now Y and Mt) All results will eventually posted on SMGF data base ..... SMGF do not send you back results. (which is why it is free!) RG does cost but can use the 40% discount code from SMGF and RG do send you results, and post your results to RG data base and predict your Haplogroup.. At the moment if you are a male and want an mt Test done at RG you will need to pay extra bucks so it is wise to do a test at both SMGF and RG as the tests compliment each other... and both results will give you different clues to kin ties and to origins. By doing both SMGF and then RG you can get both your Y and MT DNA tests for free and pay a great price for your confirmation and haplogroup at RG GET ON BOARD OUR FLEMING DNA PROJECTS (for all spelling variants) if you have questions email me jflemming@iprimus.com.au Janet Fleming-Flemming Fleming DNA project Assistant SMGF and RG

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: johnbb49 Surnames: Fleming Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/504.570.2.2.1.1.1.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Researchers for Gassaway generally agree that John Fleming b. 1776 SC was his father. My research shows that John removed from Columbia, GA to Early, then Henry, AL by 1830 where he appears in the census. The researchers also show that John was a descendant (grandson?) of John Fleming b. 1685 and Janet Witherspoon through James b. 1722. Most of this information appears to come from Reese's book, "Carolina to California" which is poorly sourced. There is even a question as to whether John was born in SC. The only surviving son that I can find in 1880, Littleberry, gave NC as the birth state of his father. "As we speak" I am trying to find documented descendants of John Fleming b. 1685 to join our Fleming surname DNA study. I am a 100% DNA match to two descendants of John Fleming b. 1685, one through his son, John b. 1718 and the other through James b. 1722 (and John Fleming b. 1776). With more proven, documented descendants I think I will be able to "lock-in" which Flemings truly descend from the Williamsburg, SC Flemings who immigrated in 1734 with the Witherspoons and others. It should be noted that we now know of at least 4 genetically distinct Fleming lines in early GA. Descendants of all 4 spread into AL/MS and lived in the same towns as others, making it difficult to keep them straight. Coffee, AL is a good example in which a large number of descendant of two genetic lines lived. For more on that I refer you to Georgia Fleming's website at http://www.flemingmultimedia.com/Genealogy/FlemingNotes.html Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
