I had a look at the 1856 Griffith´s valuation and there was an Austin Fleming living Clooninan, parish Killasser. Is this your Austin? My Flemings were from the parish of Kilmoremoy, at that time it was part of Co. Sligo, they were from Ardnaree which is now part of the town of Ballina, Co. Mayo. Sorry I couldn´t be of more help and pity there was no connection. Good luck to you too. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her first husband was John Stephenson who settled on Bullocks Creek in York County,S.C. some time before 1764. John Stephenson died in York County,S.C. in 1773. A widow with children,Jane Stephenson married Alexander Fleming in late 1773. By Alexander Fleming,Jane had Robert, born in 1774,then James, and Maratha. Alexander Fleming had brothers Elijah,Robert, and William. No Stephenson knows Jane's maiden name before she married John Stephenson. I am hoping that there might be a record of her maiden name among the Flemings. Alexander Fleming was captured by the British during the American Revolution and died in old jail at Camden,South Carolina in 1781. Jane and Alexander Fleming's eldest son was Robert Fleming. He went to Abbevile,South Carolina, and worked as a blacksmith until he attained the age of 21. Robert sold the land that he inherited from his father in York County,S.C. and went to Franklin County,GA where his other siblings lived. I would be interested in any information on the children of Jane Fleming and Alexander Fleming. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The results are in. We tested a very well documented descendant of William Fleming b. 1777 who was the son of James and grandson of John Fleming/Janet Witherspoon. The results were that his DNA showed NO MATCHING to our participant who is a well documented descendant of John Fleming b. 1776. Yet, he did match several other Flemings in the study whose pedigree didn't go back that far. Instead, John b. 1776 turns out to me part of my line which descends from John Fleming b. 1688 who immigrated to DE and lived in MD. This is consistent with documents that show that my ancestors once lived in MD. I have also found an 1880 Washington,FL census showing Littleberry, son of John b. 1776 to be alive and giving NC as the birth state of John, not SC. This information refutes Lee Reese's book and the claims of others that John b. 1776 was born in SC and descended from John b. 1685. The John Fleming, son of James, son of John b. 1685/Janet Witherspoon died in 1816 and he is not the same man as John b. 1776 who lived until 1840 when he died in AL. John Fleming b. 1776 is part of my line which descends from John Fleming b. 1688 who immigrated to DE abt. 1712 and who lived in MD. My patriarch, James? Fleming, was born circa 1760-70 MD. We have proof that John b. 1776 was born in NC, not SC. My Flemings apparently migrated to NC after leaving MD and before moving to GA abt. 1786. We have other evidence to suggest this apart from John being born their. Our line (including John Fleming b. 1776) is genetically distinct and completely unrelated to the SC Flemings. I know this may appear to be "sacrilege" among John b. 1776 researchers. There are a number of researchers who think John b. 1776 was a grandson of John b. 1685. This error appears to stem from Lee Reese's book, "John Fleming: Carolina to California." written years ago. She gave no sourcing for this information and has several other provable errors as well. Also, the John b. 1685 line has been well documented and his researchers do not claim John b. 1776. In fact, there records show that John, son of James b. abt. 1721 died about 1816. John C.
