I don't know any McComb connections for my branch of the Flemings, but it's always possible that there's a tie-in up the tree. I'll post if I see anything. I don't have Flemings in Lake Providence, but I do have a Nelson Horatio Clark whose family lived there for a while in the 1840's -- one of Nelson's descendants married into the Fleming family in Lauderdale County, MS. Let me know if you'd like more info. Glenn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm not sure if it helps you or not, but I know that an uncle of mine a few "great"s back built a long cabin in McComb, MS and it's still there. Apparently, that's where a lot of the Fleming's are from. I'm not sure if we're in the same branch, but a good bit of my relatives come from the Lake Providence/Oak Grove, LA area as well. I don't know if it is the same James Fleming, but the South Carolina History and Archives on line mentions a James Flemming who left a will in Spartenburg Co,S.C. in 1830. The names of Jane Fleming and Alexander Fleming evidently appear in that will as they are listed. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John Stephenson and Jane(maiden name unknown),who settled on Bullocks Creek in York Co,S.C. sometime before 1764, had a son Robert Stephenson b. 1754 who married Jane Barron in York Co,S.C. in 1784. I am a descendant of their son Samuel Stephenson b. 1796. Mr. Parker connected to John and Jane's son John b. 1785. Mr. Parker could only guess that John Stephenson and Jane might have been the John Stephenson and Jane James who sold land to William Ramsey in 1752 in Old Augusta County,VA,now Rockbridge County. There was a David Stephenson and his wife Annos who settled on Turkey Creek in York Co,S.C. about the same time as John Stephenson who settled on Bullocks Creek in York. David Stephenson and Annos are mentioned in records of Augusta Co,VA. Since the Stephensons' have no record of Jane Stephenson Fleming's maiden name,I really didn't think the Flemings would know it,but thought I would try. I traced my Stephensons from Texas back to Giles Co,TN. in 1850. then I came in contact with Mr. Parker. He had a Samuel Stephenson on his Stephenson chart b. ca 1796. Mr. Parker knew that Samuel Stephenson went with the Barrons to Giles Co,TN and appear on the 1820 census of that County. Thanks for replying,Lisa. I do not have any idea what her maiden name was. Our cousin Elmer Parker had a theory, but he did not share his reasoning with me. And without that I am reluctant to even hazard a guess. As to the Fleming children, we only know that daughter Martha married and had children. Robert lived to maturity, but I know nothing after 1795. The last record of second son James was even earlier, guardianship records ca 1789. No idea what happened to him after that, and Elmer never said anything further. If he could not find it, it was not to be found! Anyway, sad to say I have no info to offer you. But I would like to know how you connect. Thanks ....... The 1880 Census for Abraham Fleming per familysearch.org shows his family. In "THE HISTORY OF YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA" VOL II, PGS. 134 - 135 gives his bio. In the bio, is a reference to his grandfather, Timothy Fleming, and his 7 children. The bio states that Timothy was Scot-Irish and he came to Perry County to farm. This time frame is figured to be in mid to late 1700's because Abraham's (1836 - 1913) father, Abraham (1804 - 1873). Since Perry County was not formed until 1820, Timothy was actually in Middlesex Twp., Cumberland Co.as seen in 1810 and 1820 census. There is a grave site at Tindle Springs Lutheran Church near Mechanicsburg, Pa. The stone for a Timothy Fleming reads b. 1749 - d.1818. The stone has on it died 1818 and lived 69 yrs, but this death date does not agree with the info above that I know is correct. I'm still looking for Timothy. I have to go back to the Cumberland Co. Library to do this search. I could not find Timothy in the ships I did search. Do you have a Timothy on any ship you have looked at?
