Fergus senior had a son Fergus who in turn married and had a son, John born in 1860. My attempts at tracing this John have been unsuccessful and just wondering it this might be yours, he had a brother Henry (1863) and a sister, my grandmother, Janet (1865). Let me know, thanks Hugh McLachlan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know this because we have both groups in the RG surname DNA study. This Alexander Fleming is most likely part of my line. The Alexander, son of Robert Fleming b. 1733, was born later in SC and died there. Alexander from my line lived where much of my line did---Lancaster, PA and OH. I went to a "Moveable Feast" today featuring the author, Gordon Bubber Jenkinson, who wrote the book "A History of the Homes and People of Williamsburg District". Bubber's book features fifteen of the old Williamsburgh plantation houses and some of the history of the early settlers who owned them. I was surprised to learn that he and his wife bought the home of John Fleming that was originally located about five miles east of Kingstree on a tract of land granted to John Fleming on June 26, 1734. They moved the house into Kingstree and restored it. Some of the other houses featured in his book include Thorntree built by James Witherspoon, and the Witherspoon house built by Samuel Witherspoon. Alexander Fleming and his brothers Elijah,Robert, and William joined the South Carolina militia as horsemen in Capt Hanna's company of Col. William Bratton's regiment of Gen. Thomas Sumter's partisan army. Alexander Fleming lost his horse and was captured and confined by the British in the old jail in Camden. When smallpox broke out in the prison Alexander Fleming fell prey to it and died about April 1781. He could not have died there later than May 10,1781,when Lord Rawdon evacuated Camden after burning the jail, the mills and some private houses and destroying all the stores he could not take with him. from information by the late Elmer O. Several Fleming descendants have searched for our Ed Fleming from New York for 40 some years. Our ancestor Edward Fleming was born Nov. 3, 1850 in New York State. the picture is stampted with a Bemmington N.Y. photographer. This Edward fleming's mother was Ellen Flin/Flinn/Flynn and family always believed his father was named Edward also. As the hand down story goes Edward Fleming was killed while on duty as a policeman the end of Nove, ber 1850. We have been unable to document this story?? Hope to hear from you. I'm going to have to get with grandmother and see what information she has and maybe we can colaborate. Here's what I know off the top of my head: My grandfather was June Enis Fleming and my grandmother is Winnie. For the life of me, I can't remember her maiden name. They had nine children, one of which died at the age of 6 weeks. The children are/were: Jimmie Darnell (my father), Wayne, John, Jerry Don, Linda Gayle, Kathy, Thomas (the baby that died), David, and Steve. My grandfather died about 7 years ago and I believe is buried in Lake Providence. I'm trying to find out as much as I can because I have a little girl now, and I would like for her to have as much of her history as possible. The Fleming's never really talk much about who came before them. It's just creepy. Thanks again, and I will get more info asap.
