ON THE LDS FAMILY SEARCH SITE I FOUND WHAT APPEARS TO BE MY JOHN MIDDLETON FLEMING b- SURRY CO N.CAR. MARRIED TO CAROLINE PATILLO.... SUBMITTER WAS FROM PLAINVIEW, TX &THE ADDR IS OBSOLETE. THE PROBLEM IS.....THE BIRTH & DEATH DATES AND LOCATIONS DO NOT MATCH. SURRY CO N.CAR, ACCORDING TO THE CENSUS RECORDS, HAD MANY MANY JOHN FLEMINGS. THE SSDI RECORDS SHOW MANY MANY JOHN FLEMINGS. I GOT MY INFO ON J.M,.F. FROM SON ROBERT WM FLEMING'S DEATH CERTIFICATE & HAVE PICTURES OF THE FAMILY PLOT LOCATED ON THE OLD HOMESTEAD IN CASS CO TX. THERE ARE 3 STONES LEFT STANDING & ONE IS FOR JOHN MIDDLESTON FLEMING,- B-SURRY CO N.CAR. SEP 10 1811, D- FEB 15, 1874..ONE IS FOR ROSA CAROLINE PATILLO B- HULSVILLE, AL. MAR 23 1828, D- JAN 14, 1875. AND THE OTHER IS FOR LULA MITCHELL, 1860-1884, WIFE OF W.R.. I KNOW THEY HAD A DAU 'LOU'. THESE PICTURES WERE SENT TO ME BY RICHARD TUCK, ATLANTA, TX. WHO GREW UP ON THE FARM BUT HAS NO CONNECTIONS TO THE FLEMINGS. HE WAS A LOVELY GENTLEMAN TO SPEAK WITH. i UNDERSTAND THERE IS A DR. FLEMING IN PLANO, TX. WHO IS FROM THIS AREA, POSSIBLY FROM THIS LINE. JOHN & ROSA PATILLO-FLEMING ARE MY 2X GRPARENTS ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE. THEIR SON, MY G-GRPARENT. ROBT W. & BETTIE COCKE-FLEMING ARE BURIED IN SAN ANTONIO WHERE THEY HAD A GROCERY STORE FOR YEARS. OTHER THAN THEIR ADOPTD SON CLYDE ALLEN 'RICHARDSON'-FLEMING B- OK 1899, THEIR DAU, CLAUDYE FLEMING-FISHER IS THE ONLY CHILD WE HAVE INFO ON. THERE WERE 3 SONS BUT NO OTHER INFO AVAILABLE AS THEY LEFT HOME IN ANGER. ALL CHILDREN HAD NAMES BEGINING WITH "C". CLARENCE, CLAUDE, CLURIN, CLAUDYE, &"CLYDE". SINCE THE ADPTD SON, CLYDE WAS THE LAST TO DIE & HIS NAME IS ON GRMA BETTIE'S DEATH CERT, HE WOULD BE THE LIKELY ONE TO HAVE FAMILY RECORDS, HISTORY & PICTURES..i WOULD LOVE TO HAVE PICTURES TO PASS ON TO MY CHILDREN..THEN AGAIN, NOT BEING THEIR BLOODLINE, CLYDE & FAMILY MAY HAVE DISCARDED THEM. I'M TOLD THAT GRAVESTONES OFTEN HAVE ERRORS ON THEM SO WHAT I HAVE MAY NOT BE ACCURATE EITHER. I DON'T LIKE SEEING INCORRECT INFO ON CHURCH RECORDS AS PEOPLE TAKE THEM FOR GOSPEL TRUTH & SPREAD THE ERRORS. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Known by his family and friends variously as "Luke," "Rip," "Foster," "Dad," or "Pop-Pop," he was a private man of great integrity who loved and was loved dearly by his family and close friends. Rip was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on November 14, 1918, to Burton and Florence Fleming, both college professors. When his parents died while he was still a teenager, he moved to Glendale, California, to live with his Aunt Clara and Uncle Eldon Bacon. He attended UCLA, joining Theta Delta Chi fraternity, and studied there until his induction into the service in 1941. During World War II, he served for five years in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of major and commanding an anti-aircraft battery that fought in the European theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. At war's end, Rip returned to L.A. to attend and graduate from UCLA. There he met and married Barbara Ton! ey. Barbara and "Luke," as she calls him, were married for 59 years. They have four children (Debbie, Allyn, Burt, and Rip, Jr.) and two grandchildren (Hannah and Ryan). Rip and Barbara made a loving home in Whittier, California, until the year 2000, when they moved to Santa Barbara to be closer to family. Rip is preceded in death by his brother, Rear Admiral Allan Fleming, his sister, Allaire McGill, and his son Burt. Rip worked for Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles for 36 years, retiring as a First Vice President in 1983. From 1983 on, he served as a special consultant to the board of directors of Home Depot. Home Depot honored him with a "Founders' Award" in 1999, one of his proudest moments. After retirement, Rip spent time doing what he loved most: golfing, sailing, fishing, traveling, playing guitar, and spending time with family and friends. His family especially remembers many happy summers swimming and sailing at Alamitos Bay in Southern California, a f! amily sailing adventure in the British Virgin Islands (his dream trip) , and happy family gatherings in Whittier, Del Mar, Mammoth, Hawaii, and Santa Barbara. Rip's family would like to thank all the staff at Samarkand's Smith Center for their loving care and attention over the last seven months. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Surfrider Foundation or the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum. Published in the Whittier Daily News on 2/28/2008. I'm related to Gussie (Fleming) Brengetssy. I never got to meet her and she passed away last year. Her obituary is online with the Natchez Democrat. I know that she is somehow related to the DeFrance's out of Adams, Washington and Sunflower counties, MS. Her name appeared years ago to a DeFrance-Campbell Reunion. I'm trying to find out the connect if it's through the DeFrance or the Wood/Woods side of the family were the Fleming's come in. I'm heading to Jackson and Natchez next month from Indianapolis. To maks some connections with some surving relatives in those areas from both my paternal and maternal relatives. Good luck! He vigorously researched EDR's ancestor. With a magnifying glass I can confirm that the spelling of Fleming (1 m)and Dorcus (with an o) are on the monuments. Newsom also wrote on the back of the snapshots the info on the monuments. As a point of info I do not see "Husband of Darcus Vickery..." on EDR's monument. There is "Wife of EDR Fleming" on Dorcus's monument. I can make a digital copy of these pictures and the text on the back if you like. It appears that someone has only added four interments into the genweb site Cooper Baptist Church Cemetery in Wayne County, KY. From the photo there are obviously many graves in this cemetery. I would like to go visit the area some day. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I started on the Flemming line after I wearied of sorting through people named John Brown in South Carolina. I have a lot of family information on the Browns because we have the family Bible and letters from the 1850's. I was surprised at how easily I got the Flemmings back to EDR, and I did that just by following children's names back through the census. The Wayne County Kentucky genweb site has a searchable database for cemeteries, and the women all put on their stones, "Daughter of... and their maiden names were there. All EDR's says is "Husband of Darcus Vickery..." She probably also wanted to say, "You died young and left me with all these children!" I am very interested that you have a photo of a house. I am an architect, so am very interested in houses, and I have found few. Could you scan the photo for me, or do you have it attached to a tree already?
