    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: menefeeksu Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2422/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information pertaining to Grace Ellen Fleming. I know that she married my great grandpa (Buford Debow Menefee) on september 20, 1905. I also know that she was born May 13, 1884 and died December 11, 1946. However, I would like information about her ancestors, particularly the Fleming side. I have been told that her father is James Atha Fleming, but don't know for sure. Any help is very appreciated. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rlhsc Surnames: Beers,Bergschneider,Shultz,Fleming Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2421/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am trying to fill in some blanks regarding my grandmother Alberta Francis Bergschneider, she went at a very young age to another family and her name was changed to Alberta Sylvia Mary Beers, she passed in 1972, so am hoping to locate relatives to answer some questions. Her new parents were Bert and Clara M. Beers. Her "brothers" name was Leonard Franklin Beers and his wife, Marjorie J. Shults(also have the last name Fleming associated with her). Leonard Franklin Beers passed away on Dec. 28 2003 in Mission Viejo, CA, haven't found an obit yet. Some cities he may have lived in as well are, Bell Gardens, CA and San Juan Capistrano, CA. He was born Sept. 9 1918. The reason for finding info on him is I'm still trying to find info on my grandmother, and Leonard was her "brother", she wasn't born to the same parents as Leonard, Bert and Clara Margaret Beers, however, at a young age, she came to live with them and she did take on their surname. Since my grandmother, origin! al last name Bergschneider, then changed to Beers has passed, and Leonard and his wife Margorie have passed, I was hoping that there were other family members to contact about my grandmother, and am hoping that maybe Leonard had children that I could track down. Can someone possibly locate an obit for either, Leonard or Marjorie, or Clara or Bert or Alberta, maybe that will give me clues as well. But the main purpose of this email is to hopefully find out about Leonards family so that I may get in contact with them. Thank you SSDI > Name: Leonard F. 3. and my own last bit to add to the hunt: I found Alexander's baptism at Brompton, Kent: born 22 Feb 1850 baptised 21 Apr 1850 Alexander son of Matthew & Susan Marg** Fleming of Brompton Barracks, Corporal http://tinyurl.com/6oz5sx Brompton Barracks is/was the home of the Royal Engineers (Sappers) and from the unit histories, the 18th Company was stationed at Halifax, Nova Scotia in Jun 1850. http://www.remuseum.org.uk/rem_his_units.htm So maybe the marriage was in NS. Matthew Fleming's death registration at Medway RD 1851 Q1 but there's a gap in the burial records for this period on the Cityark site. :) Ruth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ruth Rathbone" <ruthrath@fleming.org> To: <fleming@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 3:23 PM Subject: [FLEMING] Fw: Alex Fleming, b.abt 1851 England, died Boston,MA Nov 1879 > Forwarding this to the list on Molly's behalf and adding this to the hunt. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: BONKERSDOG@aol.com > To: ruthrath@fleming.org > Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 12:52 AM > Subject: Re: [FLEMING] Alex Fleming, b.abt 1851 England, died Boston, MA > Nov 1879 > > > I thought I'd join in on the fun. Susan was listed as a widow in the 1851 census. The MA vital records shows Alexander died 2 Nov 1879, Boston. Died of acute phthisis. Lived at 49 Pinckney, was a clerk, born England. Father was listed as Alexander. Susan M Fleming, 37, dressmaker, born Nova Scotia, is in the 1870 Boston census with Alex, 19, clerk in office, born England. In 1860 Susan Fleming, 34, seamstress, born Brit. Prov. and Alexander, 10, born Brit. Prov., are living with the James Lowe family in Boston. James was born in England. In the MA vitals I found a Susan (Marks) Fleming, widow 46 years old, born Nova Scotia , ?Ship Hauton?, lived at 96 Leverett St., Boston. Died 6 Sep 1873, cancer of womb. Widow of Matthew. I don't find a marriage. So, is his father Alexander or Matthew? Was his father a Fleming? We may never know but I enjoyed the hunt. Molly

    3. To help family make the connection I did a bit of a search. In the 1851 English census there's a 13 month old Alexander Fleming with his mother Susan Fleming visiting William & Elizabeth Masham, a ropemaker and their children at Gillingham, Kent(Medway RD) Susan is described as a 25 year old widow born Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia Alexander is her 13 month old son born Brompton in Kent. I couldn't find either in another census. There doesn't appear to be a marriage for Susan in England that 'fits'. Alexander appears to be in the GRO birth index 1851 Q1 Medway RD 5/412 (Parish registers for Medway Registration District (RD) are online at (http://cityark.medway.gov.uk ) The 1871 census has another Alexander Fleming s/o Henry Fleming 20yrs and born Leadgate, Durham. He doesn't appear to be in the GRO birth index. but he is in the 1881 & 1891 census still in Durham. Hope this helps, :) Ruth http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~fleming/transcripts.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <FLEMING-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 2:40 PM Subject: [FLEMING] Alex Fleming, b.abt 1851 England, died Boston, MA Nov 1879 > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: margerice1 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2407/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of "Alex Fleming - Clerk, P.O. > Boston, Mass." which I'd like to get back to descendants or family > members.
