Author: eitemiller35 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2439.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm responding to your email because I have a Thomas Fleming, b. 1792 Trenton, Hunterdon, NJ. d. 1855 Amherst,Portage, WI. I realize that Daniel was born 37 years after Thomas, but in the same neighborhood. I've not been able to find anything on Thomas's family due to the same problem you're facing with the 1890 census. I have no record of Thomas's parents or any siblings. Just wondering if it's possible that we have a connection somewhere. I understand that there were a lot of Flemings that settled in NJ so it's a long shot. Marion Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They were the child of Daniel FLEMING b. 1829 d. 1907 and his second wife Hannah UNKNOWN b. July 1842 NJ (per records)Parents b. NJ Daniels first wife, Julia A. HILDEBRANT/HILDABRANT d. 1880 and according to records and census he married a second time to Hannah UNKNOWN some time around 1881. In the 1900 census she is listed as being married for 19 years with 1 child born and 1 child living. At this census the child is not living with them. Due to the fragments of the 1890 census I can find nothing there. Would also like to know the surname of Hannah. Daniel is buried with his first wife and next to a daughter. I did not find any stone for Hannah though I may have missed it. Any information at all would be great. TIA Dawn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: cellertson02 Surnames: Fleming, Kyle, Barrow, Howard, Combs, Cozart Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2282.1.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: When you are researching, you should not pay that much attention at first as to how the name is spelled. Many people in a position of recording information simply couldn't spell, and in other instances, the individual changed it on their own. My great aunt was a perfect example. My great grandfather William Fleming spelled his name with one "m", but his daughter Carol Flemming Poole spelled her name with two. I remember asking my mother about it once, and she didn't know why. Sometimes it is because there is a family issue, other times just plain ineptness from the standpoint of not watching what someone is doing. For example, I have two muster roll documents for William's service in the civil war. One is spelled with one "m", and the other with two "m's", but both are for the exact same company and service. He was only a teenager when he enlisted, and judging from the records, most likely underage to begin with. I'm sure he probably didn't even look at what the enlisting of! ficer wrote down, but even if he had, he probably wouldn't have rocked the boat. Always follow through on the variations of spelling in any name you are researching... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [FLEMING] FLEMINGs - LANEs & SEELYs of Ravenswood, WV & Meigs Co., OH
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ClassyGram Surnames: FLEMING - LANE- SEELY (all spellings) Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/2434/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have found a little more information that helps connect my Lane's to Seely and perhaps the Fleming lines also. The marriage of William Lane to Eveline Seely was recorded in Meigs Co., OH, 2 Oct 1827. The marriage of Bartholomew Fleming and Elizabeth Seely took place in Meigs Co., OH, a few months earlier, 8 Mar 1827. If what we discussed in 2006 is correct, (Jacob Lane m. Elizabeth Wise Fleming), then William and Bart would be cousins...perhaps Eveline & Elizabeth were sisters. I am still working on finding the spouse of my 3Xs Ggrandfather, Lawrence Lane...as I mentioned before, a Lane researcher thought his spouse was a Fleming...believed it strongly enough to place it on the tree. She passed away before I had a chance to asked her what her reference was. We have found the parents of Lawrence Lane, b 1777 in NY...Jacob Lane, b. 1737 in Raritan, NJ & Annetje Conklin, b. NY. This Jacob Lane would have been the "... Grandfather Lane came from PA with Bartholomew Fleming to Ravenswood in 1820." (a reference I found in the Ravenswood Library) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ClassyGram Surnames: FLEMING - SEELY (and all spellings) & LANE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.fleming/817.1.1.1.2.1.1.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been told that my 3Xs Ggrandfather, Lawrence Lane was m. to a Fleming...given name unknown. I read in a history book in the Ravenswood Library, "....Lawrence Lane came from PA in 1808 and built the first cabin where Ravenswood now stands." and in another book "...coming in 1820 was Bartholomew Fleming and with him was Grandfather Lane, who was then, quite old." Grandfather, would be (Jacob) Lane, b. 1737 in NJ, and he was the father of Lawrence Lane, b. 1777 in NY. This Jacob Lane was the stepgrandfather to Bartholomew Fleming...which would have made the Fleming spouse of Lawrence Lane, Bart's aunt. The above posting of 16 Aug 2002, makes me believe that the my Lane/Fleming story is indeed true. To strengthen the evidence, I found in Meigs Co., OH, the marriage record of Eveline Seely & William Lane (s/o Lawrence), b. 1806 in PA. You have the marriage of B. Fleming & Elizabeth Seely recorded in the same county and the same year. I am speculating that Eveline & Elizabeth could be sisters. Any information and/or photos of these folks would be much appreciated, and of course I will gladly share my Lane information & photos with anyone interested.
