    1. My Fleming Family History
    2. Ken Hayes
    3. Hello to any Fleming relatives. My name is Ken Hayes and I'm looking for my distant relatives. Here's some information about my family history: I'm related to the Fleming family that has been traced back to the Laird of Cragganfearn, born around 1730 in Athole, Perthshire, Scotland. His son John, who married Janet Ross, had, among other children, a son, Alexander Fleming, born 1799. Alexander brought his family to Canada, ultimately settling in the Owen Sound, Ontario area. Their son, James Fleming, born 1830, married Grace Robertson, and their child, Margaret (born 1864) married my great-great grandfather, John Hayes. I'm interested in sharing the history I've already accumulated with other relatives and re-establishing contact with them. Let me know if we have anything common in our heritage. I hope to hear from all of you out there!

    3. Hello All, I am new to this list and appreciate any help I can get. My g-g-g grandfather was Boaz Fleming who came from Kent Co., DE to (W)VA about 1787. His parents were William and Jean (Frame) Fleming. My husband's ancestor was John Fleming who was born in MD and died in Washington County, PA. in 1829. His wife was Nancy and children were Eleanor, Catherine, Anne (Frew), John, Eleanor, Robert, Margaret (Wilson) and Elizabeth (Martindale). Son John then settled in (W)VA. I believe there is a connection between these two families but can not find it. Can anyone offer suggestions or make a connection to either family? Charlotte Fleming Tucson, AZ

    2. LYNN D MANCUSO
    3. Hi Flemings and descendants: I am still looking for any connections to my great, great grandmother CATHERINE FLEMING born circa 1841......somewhere in Ireland. Family says COUNTY CORK. She married Michael Murray supposedly of COUNTY CORK. I don't have a map of Ireland handy. I have found the obit for the Michael Murray that I believe to be mine and it states that he is from ARMAGH. Is Armagh near enough to County Cork for the family to say COUNTY CORK. I don't know if they married in New Orleans or Ireland but they both died in New Orleans. I have their children, and their childrens children etc. CATHERINE FLEMINGS obit listed her as a member of the DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION and the JUNIOR LEAGUE (of New Orleans). Wouldn't that mean she was a lady of "means" to belong to such organizations? Her husband was a cooper -- would that occupation allow him to make a salary to keep them in a well off life style ? Is anyone on this list connected to CATHERINE FLEMING? I'd gladly share data with you! Sincerely, Lynn

    2. Mary Fleming
    3. Here are my elusive FLEMING ancestors. I can find no record of Robert in SC census records prior to 1870, although Robert reports that he and his parents were born in SC. This family was in the Spartanburg area of SC by 1880 and appeared to stay in the area until the last generation or so. They were mill workers by trade and married into both mill families and farming families. My grandmother was Oree Bradley listed below; her family was a farming family that moved between SC and the NC mountains. Any FLEMING cousins out there? 1. Fleming - Pitt County, North Carolina
    2. Joseph T. Fleming
    3. Hello Fleming friends and cousins: I recently joined the Roots-L Fleming mail list, and thought I would take a moment to share my Fleming line with the group. (Please forgive the length of this message!) My Fleming line ends ("for the moment," he says hopefully) with David Fleming in Pitt County, North Carolina. As is true with many, the Courthouse in Pitt County burned. Only deed transactions seemed to have survived. No records have been discovered of David Fleming's parents or the circumstances of his life beyond his transactions as they appeared in the various deed books of early Pitt County. David was in Pitt County at least by November 16, 1777, when he served as witness of grantee John Fleming to grantor Fitch Harris. The last known deed entry mentioning David Fleming is on August 10, 1820. David Fleming married a woman named Ann(e), whose surname is unknown. Some have speculated that her last name might have been Green(e) as that name appears without explanation in the names of some of his descendants, but that's only a guess. A now unaccounted for family bible indicated they married on February 18, 1776, possibly in Pitt County. * * * Children and Grandchildren of David and Ann Fleming David and Ann Fleming had at least eight children: i. Benjamin Fleming, born March 12, 1777. He married Susan Moore. I have five children indicated of this union: (a) Ivy Fleming, who married Talitha Ann Albritton; (b) Peter Fleming who married Sydney ?; (c) Adam Fleming, who married Harriet(t) House; (d) Luke Fleming, who married Elizabeth Shivers; and (e) Benjamin Fleming, Jr. Ivy and Talitha Ann (Albritton) Fleming had three children: (1) Elizabeth Rebecca Fleming, who married John Stancill William Brown; (2) Leonidas Fleming, who married Harriet Elizabeth Ann Jones; and (3) Lucinda Fleming, who married Joseph John Nobles. Peter and Sydney Fleming apparently had at least one child, Robert R. Fleming, who married Sallie E. Perkins. Adam and Harriet (House) Fleming had " ... had ten living children," according to "Chronciles of Pitt County, North Carolina," p. 396, Item no. 730. * * * ii. Sarah Fleming was the second child and oldest daughter of David and Ann Fleming. She married Edmund Little, and they emigrated to Georgia. She was born June 22, 1778. * * * iii. Lydia Fleming was born December 14, 1782. * * * iv. John Fleming, my great-great-great-great grandfather, was born March 18, 1786 in Pitt County, North Carolina. He married Louisa Dudley who was born on December 4, 1783 in North Carolina. John and Louise (Dudley) Fleming emigrated to Georgia about 1818, eventually drawing land in Dooly (later Pulaski County), Georgia. John and Louise had 13 children: (a) Ann D. Fleming, who married Jeremiah Coney; (b) Lidia Fleming, born September 27, 1809; (c) Mary Ann Fleming, born November 7, 1810; (d) Duncan Lemmon Fleming, my great-great-great grandfather, married Elda Lanier; (e) William Green Fleming married Mary Bembry; (f) Count Pulaski Fleming married Martha A. Bembry; (g) Ferdinand Fleming; (h) Catharine Fleming married Thully Williamson; (i) O. Glenn Fleming; (j) James Fleming married first Mary Ann Elizabeth Leonard and second Lucinda M. Foster; (k) John Ottaway Fleming; and at least two others who died young Jeremiah and Ann (Fleming) Coney had issue: (1) Ezekiel Coney who married Sarah E. Riley; (2) Sarah E. Coney who married Cornelius Murphy Bozeman; (c) Jeremiah Coney, Jr. who married Amanda Melvina Golightly; (d) Charles Coney who married Susan Whitsett; (e) James Coney; and (f) Dudley Coney Duncan Lemmon and Elda (Lanier) Fleming had 8 children: (1) John G. Fleming who married Sarah Lewis; (2) Louisa Fleming who married Mr. Payne; (3) Francis M. Fleming; (4) Mary Ann Fleming; (5) Duncan Lemmon Fleming, Jr.; (6) David Green Fleming -- my great-great- grandfather -- born May 22, 1843 in Dooly County, Georgia, married first Sarah Elizabeth Fountain and second Mildred Irene Jones; (7) Leroy G. 3. Hi, I had a gg grandfather Martin Fleming that came from Ireland to the Jerseville area of IL, USA. I don't know what area of Ireland he came from. He moved to Montgomery co., IL were he raised his children and died 1909. Does this fit with your family in any way? Appreciate any help I can get. I have hit a brick wall with this family. 3. I am researching the family of John Allen Fleming (b. 1858 in Missouri?) and married Sarah Overman (b.1859) in Wayne County, NC on Dec. 20, 1879. The couple lived in Wayne and Johnston counties in NC and produced the following children: James William Fleming (b.1880), Mary Jane Fleming (b.1882), Charlie Franklin Fleming (b.1884), Maggie Fleming (b.1887), and Aggie Fleming (b.1888). When Sarah died about 1895, John Allen married Pennie Godwin McCullum (b.1864) on Nov. 19, 1896 in Sampson County, NC. This marriage produced four more children: Albert Allen Fleming (b.1897), Lillie Fleming (b.1899), Billie Fleming (b.1901), and Pennie Fleming (b. 1904). John Allen seems to have disappeared sometime prior to 1910 and I have not discovered what became of him. I am descended from James William Fleming who married Daisy Mae Hines in Johnston County on Aug. 5, 1906 and produced the following children: Pearl Elizabeth Fleming (b.1907), Joel Carl Fleming (b.1909), James Allen Fleming (b.1910), John Robert Fleming (b.1912), Sarah Mildred Fleming (b.1914), and William Wilbert Fleming (b.1916) who was my father. I would appreciate any help that I could get with this family. Thanks, Jimmy Fleming Columbia, NC 27925 -- MZ
