Fellow researchers, Just a note to let you know that I'm going to be "out of the net" for a few weeks. I am currently living in Europe and will be moving to the States in a little over a week. I'm packing my computer today so this should be the last message you hear from me until I reach the far shore (unless I borrow someone else's computer). I encourage everyone to continue posting to the lists, even if you've posted before. You never know whether someone is reading your post for the first time and has the right connection. I've personally been amazed at how the surname lists produce positive results. Through the lists, I have not only found connections to ancestors but have gained valuable friendships with current cousins. You are a remarkable group of folks and I value your contributions to our joint endeavors. Your listowner, Bob Francis

In the 1820's, the KENNEDY and FLEMING families came to Shelby Co, IN. I believe they came together. One of the earliest KENNEDY's was actually named Fleming KENNEDY. The families continued to intermarry. I just visited the gravesite of a later Fleming KENNEDY that just died in 1956 (still here in Shelby Co, IN). I hope your query generates some responses! I am looking for information on Sara KENNEDY and Alexander FLEMING This is what I know about Sarah KENNEDY. She married Alexander FLEMING Mar 1, 1692 in Rappahannock Co, VA. Alexander was b circa 1660 and d 1711. She is said to be the daughter of John KENNEDY and niece of William KENNEDY. I belive her children to be John, Margaret, Alexander, Sarah, William, Charles and Elizabeth. Three of these children married into the SMITH family through which I am descended. I am looking for ancestors if known and dates of course. However, this is my first post to the list and would appreciate learning of resources or web pages I should take a look at. Clues are the name of the game at this point in my research on this line. Thanky Mitch Trier POB 415 Lisle, IL 60532 Fax 630 778 7754
Can anybody help with information or suggestions please? On the 12th April, 1909, William Henry FLEMING married Louisa Francis Harrison at Pontypridd register office, in Glamorgan. William Henry Fleming gives his fathers name as Charles FLEMING Decd. The stated occupation of Charles Fleming is Weaver. The trade of weaver seems out of context. Can anyone suggest how I may discover more about Charles. He does not appear to be local to Mountain Ash, Glamorgan, the residence of William Henry and Louisa Francis. William was a collier, and worked either at deep Duffryn, or another pit close to Penhricieber. In about 1920- 22, or there abouts, Louisa Francis, deserted (I believe) Willaim Henry, a suggestion is, because of his womanizing. She went to live in Sussex and worked as a maid or waitress or similar. I have details of some of her time in Sussex, one of the two sons which she took with her was my father. The names of the two sons were Cyril, born 1909, and Malwyn, born 1912. Has anyone come accoss a William Henry Fleming (Colliery Haulier, Below Ground) since that time who may be my William Henry? Or any helpfull suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. John Fleming.

I am currently gathering information on all and any FLEMING's that lived in or passed through Shelby Co, IN, from 1820 to 1920. However, since that was such a migratory period, my search stretches from OH to IL. I see your Porter County FLEMING's (Robert & James from Porter Twp) in the 1850 census index. Right now, I don't connect to your family, but.... If anyone out there has Indiana FLEMING information they would like to share, please, please post me (or the group -- I am new -- do you all prefer group postings or individual postings?). Specifically, I am looking for the parents and family of Caughey Steele FLEMING, b 1854, Decatur Co (what state?), parents unknown. Lived in Shelbyville, Shelby Co, IN from 1880 to 1928 (d), cabinetmaker. I have been following a wonderful family of CAUGHEY's and FLEMING's and MITCHELL's and IRELAND's and PURVIANCE's from KY to OH and then across central IN and some to central IL. However, my Caughey FLEMING has not yet surfaced. Please let me know if you have any Indiana FLEMING questions or info. Phyllis Miller Fleming Shelbyville, IN

From your listowner, Recently I received a message from one of our group members complaining about people sending e-mail attachments. While I whole-heartedly agreed with the writer that attachments should not be sent to the list, I disagreed with the tone of the message. The person and I swapped messages about this and that person has subsequently unsubscribed from this list. As the FLEMING listowner, I have the responsibility for providing a forum whereby fellow researchers may go about their business without being subjected to terse lectures on proper or improper use of the e-mail. I am assuming that we are all adults here and, as such, have the capacity for courteous behavior. In short, I do not want "Flaming" in this group. By flaming, I mean put-downs, insensitive remarks, abusive language, or use of any words that are hurtful to others. This being said, I agree that at times we need to help a fellow researcher understand what is appropriate and inappropriate to a large group list of this sort. I too have experienced real frustration when someone sends an attachment which causes my computer to freeze. If someone has a problem with something that someone says or has done, please extend them the courtesy of kindly, gently--and with respect to them--writing a note "off-line" (i.e., not to the mailing list) explaining your concern. If the problem persists, please contact me with your concern or simply "unsubscribe" from this list. Finally, I do not want to stir up a hornet's nest here. If folks would like a list of my "dos" and "don'ts" for a surname list, I'll supply it. However, I'm not much of a "rule-man" myself; the only rule that I arbitrarily impose is that of courtesy. I'd appreciate your responses on this, however I'd prefer that folks respond to me personally rather than via the group list. Bob Francis
