Gwen, Re your post about Martha FLEMING who died "5 Aug 1881 (Mrs. John Argo) in Piatt Co, IL": is the name in parentheses her name at death or the name of the source? Also, there is at least one Archibald FLEMING in IN in the 1820-1860 date range. I don't have my census papers right here, but I think there are two or three. Have you checked these men as possible brothers of Richard? Phyllis Miller Fleming Shelbyville, IN [email protected]
Jan, I am familiar with a large FLEMING clan of NC during the mid to late 1700's; I believe one or two siblings actually stayed in NC. However, the others with which I am familiar went to KY and then OH. Can you tell us anything else about John Joseph? Why did he go to NY? What was his occupation? Do you know his religion? Did he marry in NC or NY? John: I have Flemings who came to Louisiana in the 1840s from Co. Cork, Ireland, via Canada and Boston, and lived in New Orleans and in Donaldsonville, in Ascension Parish, until about 1853, before moving on to Burlington, Iowa. The lead "player" in this was Michael Fleming, born in 1823 in Ireland, who married Bridget Maher of Kilkenny Ireland in New Orleans in 1850. I also have a Daniel Fleming, born in 1853 either in Louisiana or Burlington IA, who died in New Orleans in either 1899 or 1900 -- I have very little informatio on him. Do you recognize any of these names? Any possible connections? -- Phil Philip B. Hello, I just found out I have a Fleming in my family tree, and two online genealogies I found would seem to indicate that the Fleming line traces back to James (IV) King of Scots. But the two trees disagree on the details in a couple places and I was wondering if there is a definitive source for these connections. Specifically, the line I'm tracing is that of my 5G Grandmother, Ursula FLEMING, b. 1685 St. Peters Parish, New Kent Co., VA, d. ca. 1760, husband Tarleton WOODSON 1685-1762. Ursula's father is listed as a Colonel Charles FLEMING, b. 1652 Scotland, d. 10-17-1717, Henrico co., VA, wife Susannah TARLETON. Charles' father is John FLEMING, b. 1633 Scotland. And so on. But one of the two genealogies I found (a Gedcom file) re-shuffled the wives and also seems to have misplaced 2 or 3 generations and exchanged some of the siblings involved, for example exchanging John FLEMING III (b.12-9-1589 Kincardine, Scotland) with his brother Thomas FLEMING (b. ca. 1595). Any help on the definitive relationships and particularly on verifying the first 2 or 3 individuals noted above would be much appreciated. Hi, my name is Bill Davis and I live in Baton Rouge, LA. I am doing research on my ancestors with the surname of RAGAN. I was curious when I came across the FLEMING web page since my great grandfather was Peter Fleming Ragan who married Martha McGarrah. Martha was from Friendship (Sumter Co.) GA. I do not know who Peter Fleming's mother was---possibly a Fleming? PF's father was James Ragan from Lancaster, SC and I have that he married Elizabeth ? James was born in 1809 and died in 1886. Elizabeth ? was born in 1818 and died in 1865. Children were: Alfred, James, Peter Fleming (b 1829 d 1905), W.L., Lucenda, and J.C. If anyone has any information about this I would greatly appreciate it if you would contact me at; [email protected] I will be happy to share information. Thank you. Bill Davis
This is my William FLEMING. He's a little earlier than you asked for. How does he connect with yours? Hi, FLEMING cousins. Someone on the HODGES list wrote the following, and I was just curious if any one on this list has input?? "It looks as though this Goochland Hodges group were Quakers as well as the Flemings, Pleasants, Woodsons and others." Would like to hear any thoughts on this. Zou Feagin [email protected]

Hello all from a new subscriber, I am looking for a Jane Fleming in South Wales, who was living in Glamorgan at 1910, don't yet know much more about her. Is anyone here looking in that area, or able to tell me how common the name Fleming is/was in Wales? Does anyone have access to the cemetery transcript for Capital Memorial Gardens, Nepean Twp, Carlton Co. ON? I would like a look up of Rita M. McFaul who is buried there. (OT-95-CMG). Also other McFauls - Clayton G., Earl R., and Lois M. I think this Rita McFaul might be the Rita Mabel Franc Fleming (1888 Owen Sound ON-) who was married in 1919 to William Lawrence McFaul. I don't know the names of their children (if any). Thank you. Shirley York Anderson
Hello, I'm looking for Ron Fleming, who contacted my step-grandfather Leo C. Fleming of Dallas, Texas, "about 10 years ago" while gathering information on his branch of the family. At the time, Ron lived "somewhere in British Columbia." Although Leo lives in Dallas, most of his brothers lived in Oregon. I believe they are all deceased now. Leo told me he gave all the information he had to Ron. I would like to contact Ron for all the obvious reasons. I believe this Fleming line came to North America from Ireland. I know they lived in what is now Oklahoma for a time before moving to Canada (where in Canada I'm not sure). Leo was born in Oklahoma in 1907. Thanks, Russell Laird PO Box 1046 Mt. Vernon, TX 75457
Hi Phil: you never did get back to me about your CATHERINE FLEMING. Do we have a connection? Do you have any Murrays in your Fleming line? Did any of your Flemings settle in or near New Orleans, La? thanks, Lynn
