    1. Scotland to New Mexico
    2. anne ogle-leonard
    3. Hi all, I thought I would repost my requests for information in case anyone new to the list might be able to help. Thomas FLEMING came to America from Scotland, I don't know where in Scotland, and I don't know what year he came over, or to whence he came...but I do know that he married a woman whose last name was KUHN, and that she was born in Swizterland and was 12 years old when she came to Bellville, Kansas. Thomas is said to have come over with several (six?) brothers. Thomas and his wife had 12 children, and I know the names several of them: Kate Mary Agnes (Smith), lived in New Mexico Tom Ben Robert William James Gracie (Trower?) who lived in Wichita and a sister who lived in California Agnes and her husband Howard SMITH and William James and his wife Sarah LEE went to New Mexico in covered wagons and settled just off the Santa Fe Trail in Colfax County around the turn of the century along with Sarah's sister Phoebe and her husband John ROGERS. William J. and Sarah FLEMING had four children: Harold, who married Janet FIELDEN Hazel, who married Hillary CHAMBER and lived in Neosha, Missouri Rolland, why married Wynona and Dale, who never married, but is my best source of family memories. I am having the devil of a time finding these folks in census records, I think because they were very mobile. Does anyone know anything about these Flemings and where the family may have originated in Scotland? Thanks for your time, Anne in Albuquerque Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    2. In a message dated 3/21/99 5:19:38 AM EST, [email protected] writes: << It's starting to look as if a ggrandmother of mine from the parish of Aghada in Co. Cork was named Ellen Fleming, she married James Roche in l865, in Cork. Her mother may also have been called Ellen, born approx l820, not sure of place of birth. Thanks, Colman Ahern, >> Not sure when the ice age ended in Cork, but I do have a FLEMING relative in Cork City. Anastasia (Anstey) FLEMING is listed as the mother of my g-g- grandfather, Michael CONDON, b. 1843 in St Finbarr's South Chapel. I don't know anything about her except that there is a lady with the same name listed as the mother of a previous child with the name Michael CONDON b. 1832 (died prior to 1843?) and also listed as the mother of a Samuel HOBBS, b. 1808. The first name strikes me as bit unusual, so I think that all three occurances may be the same woman. The dates do seem a bit spaced, though, so I'm not sure. ************************************************ Deborah Pesa CONDON surname Queens, NY list administrator http://www.egroups.com/list/condon-surname/ http://members.aol.com/Dpesa/home.html Ma bhuaileann tu mo mhadra buailfidh tu me fein. - Irish proverb *************************************************

    3. The Fleming name is a Latin word meaning someone from Flanders (around Belgium/Netherlands) - as a family name, it was first seen in around the 11th or 12th centuries. To the best of my knowledge, there are Flemings with heritage in about 13 different countries, probably all going back to the Flanders area if you can track it there. 3. Since I just found her this week I don't have much to go on. The info came from Kinderd Korners(I think) This is all I know: Margaret Fleming m John Love(no dates) she also was married to (don't know if before or after John) Alexander Whittaker. Margaret's father was Thomas S Love her mother was Rebecca Bunton ( no dates) Marg and John had at least two sons; David Love b 1833 Ohio and Thomas J Love (no dates) David married Anna (?)b 1831, probably about 1855/56. David is on the 1860 census of White Co IN. age 27. Anna was 29 b VA. They had a son Edmon age 4 b IN and daughter Norah Ella age 2 b IN. This is the only place I have found him. My reason for thinking he is my gggrandfather is Ella, my ggrandmother. She was born in Delaware Co In in 1858( marriage license). I have searched the census and this is the only Love with a daughter age 2 in 1860 in IN. Then I found in 1870 Ella age 13, Josephine age 9, Milo H age 4 all born IN but here's the kicker they were living back in Delaware Co with a Emeriah Garrard age 29 Cynthia age 30 both born in Ohio their son Frank age 1. There are no listings for David, Anna, and Edmon in Indiana in 1870. So I assume, which always gets me into trouble, that the three died between 1866 and 1870. Ella was married in Wells Co in in 1891( rather old to be first married) 33 years old. She had 6 children in 8 years and died at child birth in 1898. Now Thomas J Love the other son m Anna Owens(no dates) and had at least one son named Thomas R m Ivy Chandler. This is the whole story. All I know. Hope this will help someone connect.
