    3. Thanks Bob - I was glad to hear from you. Here is my query that really really needs answering. William JAMES Bradley Fleming b 1794 S.C. married Jane Hamilton either in La. or Ms. ca 1828 He was in War of 1812 in a Mississippi regiment. Received land in St. Helena parish,La. 1819. Lived in Copiah Co.,Ms., Carroll parish, la. and back to copiah co.,Ms. where he died in 1859. Had following children: Samuel John (my gr grandfather) Thomas Ruben Eugene Elisha Alexander George Ellis Joseph (died as an infant) Mary I have always felt that this Fleming family were in the old Sumter area of S.c. and possibly williamsburg because of the relationship of other families from this area in La. and Ms. at the same time as William J.B. Fleming. Martha Russell Texas On Sun, 6 Jun 1999, Bob Francis wrote: > Fellow Fleming researchers, > > Though I am your listowner, I've been rather quiet on this list for a > while. 1. Warren M. Fleming
    2. Flemco-
    3. My great grandfather Warren McCord Fleming was born January 17, 1856 in Muskingum County, Ohio. At an early age he lived with his great-aunt Mary Jane (Fleming) Smith in Ohio. In 1877, at the age of 21, he came to the Arthur, IL area, along with the Smiths, his Uncle Charles W. Fleming and other Fleming relatives. He was later the Mayor of Arthur, started the first telephone system in Arthur and in conjunction with partners operated a hardware store, furniture and undertaking business in the Fleming Opera House in Arthur. He was elected sheriff of Moultrie County in 1910 and he, his wife and youngest son were the first occupants of the living quarters in the current Moultrie County Jail. He had six sons and two daughters, all now deceased. At the time this was written in 1990, there were 7 living grand children including Helen (Herdt) Day and husband John, Mary (Fleming) Pankey and husband Burl, Martha (Fleming) Albers and husband Delbert, and William Lawrence Fleming and wife Aileen (my Mom & Dad). During the late afternoon on Friday, the 27 year old son of a local attorney had accosted a young lady rather severely. The attorney and his family were friends of Sheriff Fleming and his family. The Sheriff had been out of town most of the day. Upon his return, a warrant was issued. The unarmed Sheriff and his deputies drove to the residence of the assailant. As Sheriff Fleming stepped out of the car at 7:00 PM, the assailant fired one shot from his shotgun. When the assailant learned what he had done, he went into a cornfield and shot himself. That date was September 5, 1913. Sheriff Fleming is the only police officer in Moultrie County to give his life in the line of duty. Sheriff Fleming has been accepted into the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington, DC, the Illinois Police Officers Memorial in Springfield, IL, and the American Police Hall of Fame in Miami, Florida. The above was taken from memorial dedication at the Moultrie County Sheriff's Office in 1990. Larry Fleming [email protected]

    2. I'm not sure I even have a Fleming- my brick wall for a long time has been Nancy Fleming Payne b.19 Dec.1802, Warren Co, NC, married Benjamin Thornton,Jr. 16 Sept.1819, Elbert Co, GA, and died there 3 or 15 Mar. 1864. Does anyone know of a Fleming-Payne connection? Benjamin's grandfather was Dozier Thornton, (Rev. war) who was from Lunenburg Co. Va. so the Fleming and Payne conn. could be from there also. I hope I find some help here. Martha Vickery Bryan, Roswell, Ga. [email protected]

    3. I am researching the descendants of David Fleming of Pitt County, North Carolina. He was born at least by 1755 (he was over 45 years of age according to the 1800 census), and he died before September of 1826 in Pitt County, North Carolina. David married Ann ?, whose last name is not known, on February 18, 1776, in Pitt County, North Carolina, according to a now-lost family bible. They had at least eight children. Regrettably we know little of David Fleming. The place or date of his birth and the names of his parents are not known (at least to me!!!). The first record of him can be found in the surviving deed books of Pitt County recorded November 16, 1777. My branch, through David's son John, emigrated to Georgia about 1817, first to Washington County and then to Dooly and Pulaski counties. Most of the information I have compiled on this Fleming line can be found on my web page, at: http://www.mindspring.com/~jtfleming Thx. Joseph T Fleming P. O. Box 53354 Atlanta, Georgia 30355

    3. Hi all, I've been researching my paternal roots and could really use some help. Here is what I have so far: ggg grandparents - Peter Fleming and Mary Bryne - no place or time of birth or anything else for that matter gg grandparents - Nicholas Fleming (1800 - 1874) and Mary Dwyer (1806 - 1871) - no place of birth. But were married Nov. 10, 1835 at St. Eduard (probably Canada) They died at Hemmingford, Quebec, Canada. great grandparents - Michael Fleming and Ann Ryan (1851-1924) No place of birth. But were married Oct. 6, 1873 in Hemmingford. I know, for sure, that Ann died in Hemmingford and is buried there. I have been able to find info on Ann. I would really love to fill in the gaps such as place of birth, siblings etc on all of the above. If this sounds familiar, please let me know. Thanks in advance! 1. John Fleming
    2. The Montles
    3. In 1792, at the age of 15, John emigrated to the U.S. and lived in New York. ********************** In 1819, he came to Ohio, having purchased an interest in the Ohio Land Company's grant. Being possessed of considerable means, he contributed liberally in the upbuilding of the country. Knowing of the scarcity of money in the west, he brought several hundred dollars in silver, mostly of the denomination of one dollar, which were carefully divided in half or quartered, as the case demanded, in making change. After remaining in Ohio six years, he returned to New York City, taking his family with him. John Fleming died there in 1841, and his wife, Christina (Smith) Fleming, died in Ames township in 1863. In the Amesville Census for 1820, John Fleming is shown to be over 45, Christina, his wife, is shown to be 26-45. They had four children, two boys under 10, two girls under 10.

    1. Daniel Fleming
    2. The Montles
    3. Daniel Fleming was born in Athens county near Bishopville, October 22, 1822. He is the son of John and Christina Fleming. John Fleming was born in Germany in 1777, and came to the United States and settled in New York at the age of fifteen. Our subject attended the public and private schools of New York until about seventeen years of age, when he secured work on a sailing vessel plying between New York and New Orleans, making several trips between those points. Becoming acquainted with the engineers of the "New York and Harlem" Railway, then being built by George Law, one of the few millionaries of that day, he engaged as fireman on one of their crude, but at that time wonderful engines. He was afterwards sent to the "Mohawk and Hudson" Railway, which connected Schenectady and Albany. In this position, he was an engineer and ran the "John Bull," an engine which was built in England, and which was exhibited at the Columbian Exposition held at Chicago in 1893. He was also employed on the steam vessel, "Oregon," which, owing to her size and the fact that she was propelled by steam, was an object of much curiosity. In 1845, Mr. Fleming returned to Ohio and the scenes of his childhood, and purchased a farm of fifty acres; he was married May 16, 1846 to Lucy P. Gardner, daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Smith) Gardner. Thirteen children were born to them, seven of which survive- Joseph, William, John, Theodore, Lincoln, Julia, and Edith.
