My mother's name at birth was Cheryl Fleming Atkinson. Fleming was a family name, but we aren't sure what line it came down from. Her paternal grandfather was Rellie FLEMING SMITH (b. 1887), his parents were William Daniel SMITH and Nancy Louisa THOMPSON so the line had to have come down from one of the two familes. "Family legend" has it that we are connected to the Fleming's of Fleming Island, FL, but I haven't found a connection there. Anybody have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for information on Reuben Fleming. Born in TN and died 1846 in Pope Co, AR. His wife Melinda Latimer Fleming is daughter of Robert Latimer and they supposedly married in Bedford Co, TN. Their children are Eliz. Jane and William Johnson Fleming as found in the will probate records. Also listed in the probate records was Paralee Murray but I don't know what the connect is. William was only about 2 when his father died so Melinda probably remarried. William was raised in Johnson Co, AR and later lived in Ft. Smith before moving his family to California in about 1906. Well gang I thought I should list my primary Fleming. Her name is Agnes FLEMING, born circa 1707 perhaps in Campbelltown, Argyll, Scotland, and died in 1785, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Her parents may have been William Fleming and Janet Clark. In circa 1737, she married Robert Bell, Sr. (1700/1710-1765), and the couple came to the Colonies in about 1744. They settled first in Hampshire County, Virginia. Robert was killed falling from a horse in 1765. Soon after, Agnes moved to Carnegie, Pennsylvania, and died there in 1785. That's about it. Hello listers, I have only one FLEMING: SARAH JANE FLEMING (b abt 1812 place unknown- died abt 1871 Jack county, TX) married to WILLIAM H. RHOADES (my gr gr grandfather, born abt 1811 Smith or Henry county,TN, died about 1854 in Fort Worth, Tarrant county, TX). Prior to Tarrant and Jack county, TX, this RHOADES line lived in Hunt county, TX, and Bertie county, NC. I am seeking info about this FLEMING line, but have had no success. Must be some TN and/or NC connections. After death of WILLIAM H. in Tarrant county, SARAH JANE and her kids, migrated to Jack county, TX, where she is buried. Hi, I subscribed to the list because I have been searching for my gg grandfather's (James Ragan) wife. My g grandfather was Peter Fleming Ragan (b SC in 1829, d MS in 1905). Peter married Martha McGarrah (b GA). Since it was a custom to name first sons with the mother's maiden name I thought James' wife, Elizabeth, could have been a Fleming. Does anyone have Elizabeth Fleming marrying James Ragan? Do you have any information about James? We have hit a brick wall on him and not knowing Elizabeth's maiden name has not helped.
