Trying to help an adoptee born in 1967 at "Jacksonville Beach Hospital", Florida. Hospital may exist under different name. May not exist at all and if not, how to find where records are kept today (pretty sure someone 'must' keep them). Oh yes, anyone know rules of ordering copy of his birth cert...thru county or state? Believe he was privately adopted when about a week or month old, not thru orphans home, etc. Does Florida have an INDEX TO BIRTHS (statewide) as does Texas, Calif? (much of it now online). Are there any good online reputable sites where an adoptee could register, in case his mother was looking for him? Thanks, Joyce, Burleson, Tx
hi joyce - the old jacksonville beaches hospital is now part of the baptist hospital system. you would likely have to call the baptist hospital in jacksonville and see what records they still have. private adoption or not, the adoption papers would be filed with the clerk of the circuit court and would be kept at the courthouse indexed by the adoptive parents' last name. the adoption papers may or may not give the child's "real" last name (some do and some don't. my brother's, for example, had his birth-last name but mine didn't.) do you have any information on which attorney or person handled the adoption, and can you provide any additional specific information on the adopted child? the duval list is a very helpful one, but we would need a little more to go on. thanks, julie thames howell jax, fla [email protected] wrote: > Trying to help an adoptee born in 1967 at "Jacksonville Beach Hospital", > Florida.
