You know how things come in threes? This is the third time in just about as many days that I have come across the name "New Berlin" - strange! In "Grave Markers of Duval County, Florida 1808-1916" compiled by Lucy Ames Edwards (Mrs. Ray O. Edwards) in 1955 in Jacksonville, FL, she states on page 60 that the New Berlin Cemetery "was the chief burial place of the town of New Berlin, located on Dames Point on the St. Johns River...The first burial was that of Leonard Freeland, who died Oct. 22, 1854." (This book is available at the Jacksonville Public Library, Downtown, Genealogy Dept.) The Geographic Names Information System website at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form has New Berlin as a populated place in Duval County, FL (Latitude: 302354N and Longitude: 0813310W) and is on Eastport USGS 7.5 foot x 7.5 foot map. Any assistance would be appreciated. I am trying to tie in a Dr. Henry (von) Balsam or Balson to the area of New Berlin. Thank you. > Judy Rollins St. Augustine
