    1. Re: [FLDUVAL] cemeteries
    2. "All grave sites must be afforded equal protection under the law without preference to color, creed or religious beliefs" How can someone be so ignorant as to think that "dead people have no history"? We all have a past, and it exists - even long after we have been returned to the earth. I am afraid that too many people have too little regard for 'the dead'. Prehaps like everything else in our society the views are changing. How many families take the time to go to cemeteries where their ancestors are buried and to lay fresh flowers and clean the graves? All too often, for varying reasons, it is left to the care of the cemetery. Perpetual Care Cemeteries. Perhaps because we are a transient society we have neglected to instill traditions and obligations and respect in our newer generation. I don't know the answers. As a "Devils Advocate" I can bring up this argument- that graveyards take up a LOT of ground. Our world is over populated as it is... maybe a more efficient way to deal with our human remains should be approached. Precious land lies "useless" growing grass and holding caskets and sporting weathered headstones. The land could surely be put to better use. I wonder if that is the direction that the world is moving in? Ya'll remember- the above statements are not necessarily the view of the author!! Well, enough unconnected news from me today. Dianne > Like you I do not understand how someone can destroy a cemetery and think > nothing of it. My friend felt that they should build a church on the site > because, > in her words "a church benefits everyone and dead people have no history > and > they don't benefit anyone." Now don't get me wrong, churches are a good > thing, but for her to think that "dead people have no history and do not > benefit anyone" was just too much! Some people have no intelligence!
