hi ed - thanks for your suggestion. i have, indeed, been pouring through davis' book to see what he says about the boarding houses in that time frame. we may, however, have found our man through another source, so i may not have to worry with the boarding houses after all. thanks again, and have a good day, julie ----- Original Message ----- From: Edgar Taylor To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, March 15, 2001 1:13 PM Subject: Re: [FLDUVAL] J.C. Hernandez - 1861 Suzanne - I would suggest you ask some kind soul in Jax to look in the city directories in the main library for your ancestors. As I recall when I last looked, individuals who were boarding were so indicated with an address. Then some of these directories give a separate list of the names and addresses of the boarding houses. Combining the two pieces of information might answer your question. Julie - I do not know if the city directories go back that far. However, have you looked in the several Jax histories, such as that of Davis? As I recall there was some discussion of the early boarding houses, some of which were on Bay Street, a likely place for sailors to board... Hope this helps.
