    3. Amander Parson's is said to have named the village of May Port-Mayport- and was the owner of the mill which the Yankees burned during the War between the States. He established a church there and his daughter Dorcus, a school, both church and school perhaps the first in the village. There is some evidence that Cornelius Taylor built the mill which he sold to Parsons.
