    1. [FLDUVAL] Philip Fraser - Mayor of Jax -Uriah Poinsett and a little history - Re: Griner Family
    2. Edgar Taylor
    3. One of he mayors of Jacksonville listed was Philip Fraser. He married one of my Dewees relatives who was the widow of ship Capt. Uriah Poinsett. Fraser was a Federal judge appointed after the War between the States because he had sided with the Union. The Fraser family were probably forced to leave Jax later after the War because of people's animosity. Poinsett came from a long line of ship captains and was reported to have been born in the Jax area before Jax existed, probably on his father's ship, and when he died he was buried where the Episcopal cathedral now is located in down town Jax. Whether his body was moved, as was many of the others to other cemeteries, is a question. Ed T of PGH -------- On May 17, 2007, at 7:08 PM, James Boehm wrote: > Sorry not to be of much help. 3. Ann & James, Thank y'all for your reply. I googled 'list of mayors for Jacksonville' after I sent the message & found the link you mention James. This goes to show, as y'all know, why we should always prove our family roots when they are sent by someone else to you (not trying to sound rude, I apologize if I do). Ann, I will check-out South Jax later today, am about to go get ready to go over to my grandfather's for lunch then to with him to visit my Dad in rehabilitation for his right leg was amputated above the knee last month. I will ask Ray where the information about his Uncle Clayton being Mayor could have come from & see if he knows. What are some local Jax newspapers? Thank You, Lena --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell.
