    1. SGES Happy New Year

    3. Just a reminder a about our first two meetings of the new year: Saturday, January 8, 2005, 10 a.m., the last general monthly meeting of The Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society, by itself, maybe forever, at this date and time and at the library/headquarters location, 6215 Sauterne Drive, Jacksonville. The program will feature Dr. Ronald Jaudon "Don" Berry, PhD. He is a poet, author, and genealogist, with a specialty of Huguenot research. His topic: "Huguenots, and Jaudons's on The First Coast." Let's have a great turnout, even for historical sake. Saturday, February 19, 2005, 1:30 p.m., the first joint meeting of SGES with the Jacksonville Genealogical Society (JGS) will be held at the Willow Branch Library, 2875 Park St., in Avondale (monthly, third Saturdays, 1:30 p.m., from now on). The location will change to the Webb Wesconnett Library on 103rd St. when the remodeling is complete there. At this point, SGES leadership is responsible for the programs for Feb., April, June.... The speaker for the Black History Month program in February is Mr. Daniel Moses, from Jacksonville, who is a noted national speaker on sexual abuse in the workplace and on black genealogy. He is a store manager in the Jacksonville area. He will present a most interesting program on his genealogical research in his famous mixed-race family background. I know this man personally and have witnessed some of his presentation - he is great - you don't want to miss this meeting. Did you know that the Genealogical Dept. of the Jacksonville Public Library downtown, has become a Family History Center? This means you can order and view microfilm there just as you do at any other LDS FHC. Did you know that one of the membership benefits of SGES is the ability to sign up for the Heritage Quest research program for only $20.00? This is a great savings over individual HQ membership and is a tremendous research tool. See http://sgesjax.tripod.com for details. Willowbranch Library is going to be sponsoring a program that will be of interest to you: It is an overview of the history of the Jacksonville area (The subtitle is "Five Centuries on the St. Johns River"). Emily Lisska, the Executive Director of the Jacksonville Historical Society, will be the presenter. She will have a slide presentation or similar audio-visuals, and refreshments will be provided. The date is Thursday, January 13 and the time is 6:30 PM. The place is the Willowbranch meeting room, which should (SURELY) be completely renovated by then. Feel free to contact Richard Mott, Adult Services Librarian at Willowbranch Library if you have any questions: (381-8490 or rmott@coj.net). Information provided 1/2/05, by Ed Murfin, SGES Publicity Chairperson, edmurfin@bellsouth.net.
