Hi, I am looking for SKS to look up several older obituaries in the Jacksonville Newspapers for me. If interested contact me off -line at _DLPY@AOL.COM_ (mailto:DLPY@AOL.COM) . Dave
Would some one kindly send me the address of the repository for the old cathedral records, which I recall was moved to a place near Mandarin? Will they respond to requests for information? If not, is there some one reading this who goes there and would kindly look up a marriage and their children for me? We are interested to see which Mestre Margaret Joaneda (aka Floyd) married. She was the daughter of Jose and Isabella (Dewees) Joaneda (Yuaneda y Florit, aka Floyd), and is the sister of my great grandmother, Catherine (Floyd Hall) Taylor. Margaret in 1830 married Henry DeMasters, but that wedding was by a justice of the peace. Many thanks for considering my request. Ed T of PGH
Is there any evidence of a surname Surrough in the Jacksonville area between 1880 and 1890? Thanks, Marge
Hello Stephanie - My records indicate that the Daniels Cemetery is also known as the Turknett Cemetery. However, I do not show a burial for a Dorcas Gainey (including any possible spelling variations). You can access the burial records for Duval County's page of the Tombstone Transcription Project at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/florida/duval.htm. You might want to look through them for your Dorcas Gainey. Thanks to everyone who sent ideas for the cemetery refurbishing. I now have a lot of options. Jon Furguson was also in touch with me and will keep in touch. He also gave me some suggestions. Thanks again to all of you! I'm beginning to feel better about the situation and will proceed. Harriett
You might contact The Chicora Foundation. Their website is http://www.chicora.org/ They might be able to help with a grant, etc. I would also check their contents page http://www.chicora.org/toc.htm under "Cemetery Preservation" Some of the topics there include Lawn Maintenance http://www.chicora.org/lawn_maintenance.htm Cleaning, Disaster Planning, etc. Ann Staley ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harriett Ogilvie" <ogilvie356@bellsouth.net> To: <FLDUVAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2006 9:35 PM Subject: [FLDUVAL] Starratt Cemetery >I would like some advice on who to contact or hire to do some work in a >family cemetery that has been neglected. Hi Harriet - I would call Evergreen Cemetery and ask their advice. Surely they could advise you what type of people to hire. You certainly don't want a regular "lawn service" going around the gravestones with weed-wackers, damaging the stones, etc. Julie ----- Original Message ----- From: Harriett Ogilvie To: FLDUVAL-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2006 9:35 PM Subject: [FLDUVAL] Starratt Cemetery I would like some advice on who to contact or hire to do some work in a family cemetery that has been neglected. The main branch of the Jacksonville Public Library system has the death index for Florida on microfiche. Here is a link to their page, http://jpl.coj.net/U_ENG_iFiles/hours.html#main If you find the person you are looking for there, you can look for an obituary in the Florida Times-Union or Jacksonville Journal newspapers on microfilm at the library or order a Florida death certificate. Here is a link for that, http://www.doh.state.fl.us/planning_eval/vital_statistics/deaths.htm Good luck, Jim Gray

I have an Edward F. Canova married to a Mamie E. Binnewies on Sept. 24, 1890. I believe they lived in Duval County. Does anyone know of this couple? Thanks, Kathy Kjt54@aol.com
That's gonna be a toughie considering that "Sonny" is a nickname. The best suggestion I can offer is to look in the Jacksonville City Directories for 1936 and see what you can find under Carson. An Index of Jacksonville City Directories can be found at http://jpl.coj.net/dlc/florida/rbmp/cdindex.html . However, the directory for 1936 is not online yet. Give the library a call; in 1936 Jacksonville wasn't all that big, so there can't be too many. By the way, in that time frame, there were a lot of "common law" marriages. Does anyone know of the wheelwrights of Florida? My great-great-grandfather was one. This occupation was on the 1850 census for him and this was in Santa Rosa Cty. I was wondering if there was a list of names of people who worked as wheelwrights. kathy thompson Kjt54@aol.com
I would like to thank everyone who answered my email and helped me to find Stacy's mother and husband. Please keep them in your prayers and ask a special prayer that they find her father Jimmy who is supposed to be in Orlando right now. Thanks again, Joy
