Sorry, I do not know where Brooksville or Bridgewater are and I don't have a William Myron Miller in my base. Wish I could help. Ann ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
I am also looking for MILLER- William Myron and Mary Ann JonesMiller had a daughter in about 1900,this child died about 1905 to 1907 we think, she is not on the 1910 census for NY and I do not have access to the 1905 NY census,if there was one- her name was Nettie Miller and I have yet to fine the place of her burial- William and Mary Ann were married in Brooksville, but lived in Bridgewater- so the child I would think shoule be buried kinda close - this is what I think anyway- any guesses as to where else she might have been buried ? Marge, thanks for the comeback. I recently sent an e-mail to Susan [that came back due some type of earthlink security] suggesting she might consider checking out the return addresses on the mail as well as the postmarks [using the USGENWEB forums in those areas]. I just know the families/ancestors/descendants of that family would love the correspondence/pics. My husband's link with the Kemp surname is Canada via Scotland. While there was a William Kemp way back I think the one in question may be from another set of Kemps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron and Marge Zoblisein" <zoblisrm@worldnet.att.net> To: "Susan Brawley" <sroberts4@earthlink.net>; <flduval@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2007 8:20 AM Subject: Re: [FLDUVAL] St. Joseph's Cemetery - Re: Julie Thames Howell > Mary and Susan, > There is a Kemp surname list on this same Rootsweb. Mary and Susan, There is a Kemp surname list on this same Rootsweb. I would post to that list. At least you have a audience full of interested parties. There is also a list for Kemp DNA. Hi Terrell. The June issue of SGEQ is at the printers and should be in the mail next week. It's running late due to the Editor, Nadine, learning a new program. We have the Old City Cemetery book in our library, too. Jon ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Susan, while we are not related to the Kemp's in question I have given it some more thought. I am sure the descendants/families of the ancestors of that line would love to have the correspondence/photos. May I suggest that you check the return addresses and/or where they were posted from for a clue. If it were me I would do a little snooping on the USGENWEB in those states/areas and possible post the same information you sent to me [on several forums]. I think you were nice to save this information for such a long time. If you have the information on hand I would be glad to help you locate a possible connection and send anything to you for follow-up Bless you. Thanks for asking. My husband's Kemp family and ancestors are from Canada and Scotland. My husband missed by 14 days himself from being born in Canada. The Kemp letters you have more than likely are not related to my husband. Thanks again. I sure wished they did belong to his side of the family. Would have loved to have them. Mary - on the Kemp family - I have a box of letters I found in the home I own in Lakeland more than 30 years ago that are written from a Willaim Kemp to his wife when they were engaged - pics, too. Any idea how to locate the family? If you are interested and can tell me the wife's name as a security measure, if you don't mind, I will forward the contents to whomever - I hate to have the family lose this stuff. a fellow genealogist - Susan Roberts You can check me out at www.jud10.org if you like -----Original Message----- >From: mary kemp <marykemp@comcast.net> >Sent: Jun 6, 2007 7:39 PM >To: Tony & Julie Howell <tjhowell1@bellsouth.net>, flduval@rootsweb.com >Cc: flduval@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [FLDUVAL] St. Joseph's Cemetery - Re: Julie Thames Howell > >What doesn't make sense to me is why the church balked at putting names on >line. >Is this a very large cemetery? A transcription of the grave markers in Old St. Joseph's Cemetery was published in the Southern Genealogist's Exchange Quarterly in 1995. There are several other old transcriptions available for research there, too, as well as a transcription of records from the Health Department for people buried there from 1860-1926. The library of the Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society is located at 6215 Sauterne Drive on the west side of town, the second building off Blanding Boulevard. Thanks for the reply. This seems more reasonable. Sounds different anyway. I don't know how strict the laws were in the past but do think that the current cemetery laws require records. 10 years ago when my husband and I made pre-need arrangements with Evergreen Cemetery we had to pay for a deeded plot along with the cement in-ground vault, double bronze plate on granite, in advance because it was pre-need. Contracts were written. So on and so forth. I guess requirements can vary to a certain extent cemetery to cemetery. I know Each state has its own laws. Most of my ancestors are from NC and for the most part the burial records were in the courthouse. This did make documentation easier to access. Below is the site for Florida cemetery records. Lot to it but makes interesting reading <smile, grin>. I am a member of St. Joseph's Church. When I inquired a couple of years ago about whether an ancestor was buried there, I was told that the church did not have records of the burials in the cemetery. If there has been a survey made since that time, I am not aware of it. St. Joseph's has a fairly good size cemetery, and the graves go back to the 1800s. The church recently increased the size of the cemetery. I don't think it would be objectionable for someone to survey the cemetery. I would like to do it myself, and if I ever finish the project I am now involved in, I thought I might. However, it is going to be quite a while before I will be available to do it. Apparently the contact persons that were named by Ms. Howell are willing to go to the cemetery and do lookups. What doesn't make sense to me is why the church balked at putting names on line. Is this a very large cemetery? It could be possible that they may not allow you to use church records and that would probably be legal but what if you just did a survey on your own? In 1999 and 2000 my husband and I went to NC and took over 400 digital pictures of the various cemeteries hoping to find many of my own genealogy researched ancestors. Rather than waste the photos we donated them to the USGENWEBarchives archives of NC.. After I tweaked the pictures I wrote the text formatted as instructed by the manager. It worked out wonderfully. Could it be possible that you could do the same for St. Joseph's Cemetery? I have the site somewhere on my data base regarding Florida Law in regards to cemeteries. If you would like for me to locate the site I would be more than happy to look for it. I know they had a big to-do in NC because some homes were placed on land sites of very old cemeteries and the land owners were not allowing researchers to come on the property. They looked up NC cemetery laws and found that they could legally do so. They are still working on the legality of it now. Good luck with your research. I guess I am a trooper in my golden years.. If it were me I would take my camera, go to the cemetery with pad and pencil in hand and have at it. <smile, grin> Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Edgar Taylor" <ertjr1@earthlink.net> To: "Tony & Julie Howell" <tjhowell1@bellsouth.net> Cc: <flduval@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2007 2:10 PM Subject: [FLDUVAL] St. Joseph's Cemetery - Re: Julie Thames Howell > Hi Julie - Are you are referring to the St. Joseph's Cemetery across > the alley north of the Old City Cemetery in Jacksonville? Hi Julie - Are you are referring to the St. Joseph's Cemetery across the alley north of the Old City Cemetery in Jacksonville? Perhaps not. It has been many years since I went there but when I did it was not in very good shape, "stone wise". The discouraging thing was that many of the grave stones were piled up against the fence, some broken and probably some missing. Hopefully the church has straightened out the problems. But I was fortunate in that the grave stone of my great great grandmother Catherine (Joaneda aka Floyd) Taylor was at ground level as were her daughter Carol Taylor (Hedrick) Ochus and her granddaughter and the granddaughter's husband. In a back corner also at ground level was Carol's son Augustus Ochus and his wife, Minnie. I hope the stones are still there and still in good shape, but I would not be surprised if they are not there. That cemetery was not in a very safe area. But maybe you are referring to the cemetery near Mandarin. Ed T of PGH ------------ On May 29, 2007, at 9:24 AM, tjhowell1 wrote: > Hi Ann - I'm here.
