Joann Bragg - Hi: Received your response and I do greatly appreciate your time and efforts. As I mentioned previously, there is no great rush -- at least from my standpoint. After waiting 20 years or so for information, one, two, or three months is no problem. I look forward to hearing from you whenever it is convenient for you. THANKS, again. Robert D. Peterson e-mail address: [email protected]
Robert, I'll check it out as soon as I can; probably next Thur or Friday. I work Mon - Wed so will get to it soon. I am looking for info on Nancy Williams b. ? d. abt 1872 Newnanville, FL. She married James Pendarvis. I think her father was Lewellen Williams. Is anyone on this list researching this family line? thanks, pat
Joann Bragg - Hello: Received your reply to my prior inquiry relating to CHARLES A BLASE and, though, your research was non-productive, I very greatly appreciate your time and efforts. Based upon your efforts, I can only assume that CHARLES A. BLASE did not die nor was he buried in Florida -- especially in the Jacksonville area. In response to your question, it is quite possible that he did cross the stateliness into the State of Georgia. Your message reflects that your library has death records for the State of Georgia. If I may, could I impose upon you, when you next have an opportunity, could you check the death records for the State of Georgia for a CHARLES A. BLASE. There is no rush -- just when it is convenient for you. Your cooperation and assistance are greatly appreciated. Robert D. Peterson e-mail address: [email protected]
Robert, I checked the following: Florida Deaths beginning 1917 thru 1959 (I was looking for other names as well) I found a Ralph Cameron Blas that died in Jax in 1923; Bettie Blas died in Jax in 1924 and William Blas in Palm Co in 1951. Could not find BLASE. I also checked the City Directories from 1921 through 1939 and could not locate BLASE. There were several BLASes. The library also has the death records for Georgia. Do you think he could have crossed the stateline? Sorry I couldn't be of any assistance but let me know if you come up with any ideas & I'll be clad to check it out. We do have cemetery listings for most cemeteries. Robert, I'll see what I can find. The public library also has the obituaries listed by year and then alphabetical. I may be able to find something there. I was suppose to be off work tomorrow but have to go in for a meeting. Afterwards, I'll run across the bridge to town and check it out. Joann Bragg - Hello: Noted your recent message and very kind offer to do look-ups relating to Deaths and Death Certificate in the Jacksonville, Florida area. I would greatly appreciate your assistance and cooperation in obtaining, if possible, data relating to the following ancestor: NAME: CHARLES A. BLASE Date of Death: 1930s - approximately Place of Death: Jacksonville, Florida I appreciate the fact that the indicated "1930s" as for date of death is somewhat vague. Unfortunately, that is all I have. If you feel that the time frame is too indefinite, I will accept your decline. However, any assistance, even if it is a negative answer, will be greatly appreciated. Robert D. Peterson e-mail address: [email protected]
Amander Parson's is said to have named the village of May Port-Mayport- and was the owner of the mill which the Yankees burned during the War between the States. He established a church there and his daughter Dorcus, a school, both church and school perhaps the first in the village. There is some evidence that Cornelius Taylor built the mill which he sold to Parsons. For those of you asking about Parson's Cemetery, Lucy Ames Edwards gives a short historical account in her book "Grave Markers of Duval County 1808 - 1916". "...... Amander Parson's was the first member of the Parson Family to have owned this property. The first burial was that of Thomas Burke, who died 20 Nov 1840. He was the brother of Elizabeth Burke Parsons, the wife of Amander Parsons...." Amander's headstone as well as Elizabeths still stand. Also buried in this cemetery is Mary Dorcas Parsons (1836-1869), wife of Napolean Bonapart Broward, who is buried in Evergreen. The Jax Public Library and FHC has microfiche of Duval Co deaths, marriages and divorces. I think the latest year is 1967 or 1969. It gives the vol and certificate #. I have to work tomorrow but will probably run by the FHC on Thur or Fri. If anyone would like me to look up a name to see if there is a record, let me know. I will need a year, give or take, as they are listed by year and then alphabetical. Also, if they died in Duval Co, the Public Health Dept has them. $9.00 a copy but you can pick them up right away. It takes a couple of weeks from the Bureau of Vital Statistics. They were $4.00 but may have increased to $5.00. Thanks Julie, As a matter of fact we were at the Parson's Cemetery this past week. Jack and I photographed the place and began a survey. The only access is at the back of a house, through a gate. The cemetery is in need of a mowing, and I suggest no visitors for another few weeks. Will give the mowing schedule on the last 10 cemeteries we visited sometime this week. I spent all day at County/City hall and am due to meet with P&R about mowing schedules in another day or so. There is a cite that will give you the address and office for any state you may be interested in obtaining info from. I have tried, but, was unsuccessful in getting a death certificate from Jacksonville for my grandmother. The address is: Office of Vital Statistics, Dept of Health, P.O. Box 210, 1217 Pearl Street, Jacksonville, FL 32231. They were very prompt in telling me they could not locate any information on my gmother--so I think you should hear from them rather quickly. I also should say that I believe my problem in locating info on my gmother is my problem, and not any problem with their system, etc. Also, I believe the cost was $5 for a death certificate. Their phone is: 904.359.6911--you should probably call for yourself for the charges. Also, I think if you follow links from the Ancestry.Com page, you can find the website that lists all the addresses and charges for the entire US. Hi on the death certificate you can find where they were born. Their parents names. It won't have cause of death though. In Florida they mark that out. Their address at the time of death. Funeral home that buried them Etc. Barbara Justice
hi martha - the parsons cemetery is in the arlington area of jax on clifton forge road. actually it is "landlocked" by residential lots on clifton forge road, cove st. johns and river valley road, s. from the plat there appears to be an easement to the cemetery from clifton forge rd. i believe dianne (sunshine) has been to this cemetery and may be able to tell you more exactly how to get onto the cemetery property. julie thames howell, jax, fla Martha Scoggin wrote: > Does anyone have any information about the old "Parson's Cemetery"?
