    1. [FLDUVAL] Old Stanton School

    3. Does anyone have, or know, if there are any yearbooks anywhere for the Old Stanton School for the years from 1925 through 1930? Our Haydon Burns Library downtown has the 1942 and 1958 yearbook and also a photo of the graduating class of 1968 with the names under each graduates photo, but these are the only yearbooks, that I can find. I absolutely need the yearbooks or anyone kind of photo that has names of the students with their photos for the years from 1925 to 1930. Thanks for any help.

    2. Just found this site and am glad to know there is a genealogy link for Duval County. While I was born and raised in Duval County all my ancestors are from the NC area (Wanchese, Manteo, Manns Harbor, Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk). If you come across anyone by then names of Hayman, Mann, Tillett, Daniels, Midgett, etc. from the NC area I have loads (abt. 200 -+) of digital pictures of grave tombstones & markers from the various cemeteries. They were taken directly from the camera to a floppy disk so they would be easy to forward. It was a thrill to place the pictures to my FTM. Morbid as it may seem, I am hooked on my genealogical research. Started it way back in 1969 when every thing was done by snail mail and recorded on hardcopy. Now with computers, software (FTM) and the web, everything is so much nicer and, to say the least, easier. I retired in 1998 and have gone full fledged every since. Happy hunting for your ancestors. I tried to send an e-mail to your regular e-mail addresses but the system did not recognize the screen names. Sorry to send this off the wall message to the FLDUVAL-D Digest message board. 3. hi susan - i've got the names typed up but haven't had a chance to sit down with my hubby (my proof-reader) and proof them! it's torture for me to walk past them (they are sitting on my end table next to the sofa) constantly and not have a chance to get to them. there just don't ever seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done that i want to. tony has said that, this weekend, we are going to set aside time specifically to go over the 3 cemetery surveys and the 2 or 3 sets of THAMES estate papers (from the early 1800s!) that have accumulated and are driving me crazy not looking at them. <g> you are such a blessing to your mom and dad. have a good weekend, julie ----- Original Message ----- From: David L. 3. hi all - i've been playing all day on this web site: http://www.dos.state.fl.us/fpc/ . this will bring up the Florida Photographic Collection at the Department of State (dos) web site. when you go to their search screen, you can put names of places, SURNAMES, all sorts of things in the "search" box. then click on "full text search" and the site brings up all sorts of wonderful things...pictures, maps (some hand-drawn), photographs. there are early photographs of "so-and-so's 2nd grade class" from towns in florida that i've never heard of. you can click on "view a description of the photograph in the florida photographic collection", beneath each thumbnail photo, and it will tell you the names of the children in the class photos. and if the child's name is in red, click on it and the site will tell you how many entries for that person there are in the collection, and you can bring up any of the other pictures for that person. please try this wonderful web site. julie thames howell jax, fla

    3. hi lawrence - the only name i'm really researching at this time is my father's surname, THAMES. i only research one surname at a time as i do not follow collateral lines past one or two generations. i prefer to keep my surname research in more of a "direct line of descent" form. i have done my childrens' father's (adoptive) surname, CA(U)LKIN(S), and have acquired an excellent genealogical research of their father's birth father, MAVERICK and McGARRAUGH. my paternal grandmother's line is DUDLEY of which i have a reasonably good amount of research. my maternal grandmother's surname is BLACKWOOD and my maternal grandfather's is BAZLER. julie ----- Original Message ---- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 4:33 PM Subject: Re: [FLDUVAL] "Local Military Organizations" - part 1 Julia, What surnames are you researching in Duval County? 3. hi list - i was re-reading a portion of T. Frederick Davis' History of Jacksonville and thought some of the folks on our list might be able to use a name or two from the chapter on "Local Military Organizations." "In 1835, when it was apparent that there would be trouble with the Seminole Indians, a regiment of militia was organized in northeast Florida, composed of men from Duval, Nassau and probably St. Johns Counties. It ws known as the Fourth Regiment of Florida Militia and was commanded by Col. John Warren, and the First Battalion by Lt. Col. Wm. J. Mills, both of the Jacksonville neighborhood. It is indicated that Company D, First Battalion, commanded by D. S. Gardner, was composed of local men, but its roster is not available. The Fourth Regiment was among the first to be ordered out, nearly three weeks before the actual outbreak of hostilities. It marched from Jacksonville for the frontier, December 9, 1935. (footnote: Florida Historical Quarterly, Jan. 1925) The Duval County Mounted Volunteer Guard - This organization was authorized by the Legislature in 1849, for service on the Indian River frontier in connection with Indian troubles. This company was mustered into the service of the State August 7, 1849; the muster roll was as follows: (footnote: Evening Times-Union, Jan. 6, 1896) Officers - Captain: Thomas Ledwith. Lieutenants: John Roberts, Jr., Ephraim L. Harrison. Sergeants: Aristides Doggett, A. J. Simmons, James Higginbotham, Redden Turner. Corporals: James W. 1. [FLDUVAL] SCARBOROUGH
    2. Hello!! I am looking for help in getting a copy of my uncle and aunt`s obituaries. They are: William Cleveland SCARBOROUGH , 1885-1949 wife-Mary Evelyn Randall Titus, 1879-? Uncle "Cleve" was the Postmaster in Jacksonville. We have only the year of his death. Aunt Evelyn died between 1958 and 1962. My sister remembers that she was buried in or near Jacksonville, possibly in a town West of the city. They had no children but Evelyn had a daughter Mary from a former marriage. In 1958 Evelyn wrote a letter to my mother and aunt Hattie that was postmarked Pismo Beach CA. From the letter it appears that her daughter Mary was there with her. My sister knows that aunt Hattie went to Evelyn`s funeral, and since Hattie died in 1962, we know Evelyn`s dod had to be in the years 1958-1962. That`s all we know. Would greatly appreciate your help. Charles Scarborough
