    1. [FLDUVAL] cemeteries
    2. Julie, Like you I do not understand how someone can destroy a cemetery and think nothing of it. I was discussing with a friend not to long back, about a historical cemetery in our home town that was going to be destroyed for a church. My friend felt that they should build a church on the site because, in her words "a church benefits everyone and dead people have no history and they don't benefit anyone." Now don't get me wrong, churches are a good thing, but for her to think that "dead people have no history and do not benefit anyone" was just too much! Some people have no intelligence! Good news the church is going to pick another site to build and keep the cemetery as it is. However I did wonder....... If it had been her ansesters in that cemetery would she have had different feelings about it being distroyed? She stated that she would not, her feelings would have been the same, but I do wonder.... Julie wrote.... I was looking up names on rootsweb's florida tombstone transcription pages today and saw the following item posted on one of the surveys: Note: According to several elderly ladies that were visiting the cemetery the day I was talking this census and paused to chat... "Prospect Church and Cemetery" was located in a south-westerly direction from Williams Cemetery. While they couldn't agree on approximately how many people were buried there, they did agree that "one day it was there and the next it wasn't with the tombstones dumped into the lake and a citrus grove being planted". there are a great many things in life that i do not understand. one of them is how this sort of thing can take place. it's not just the act of destroying a cemetery, but the mind-set of the person who sees nothing wrong in doing so. julie thames howell jax, fla

    3. I think St. Marys Cemetery is the Catholic section of Evergreen. I'm not sure, but perhaps you could call Evergreen and ask. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jjrollin" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 4:51 PM Subject: [FLDUVAL] Location of St. Mary's Cemetery in Duval County > Trying to locate the above cemetery as it relates to Duval County. 3. hi judy - st. mary's cemetery is within the boundaries of evergreen cemetery. if you go north on main street, when you come to evergreen cemetery (it's out past about 35th street), turn right on evergreen drive and go down the side of the cemetery to Gate 4. "St. Mary's Cemetery" is bordered by st. mark's drive, st. phillip drive, woodlawn avenue and st. ignatius drive. i will email you one of my genealogy information lists which has the telephone number of evergreen cemetery. the lady there can give you more details and information. julie thames howell jax, fla ----- Original Message ----- From: jjrollin To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2001 4:51 PM Subject: [FLDUVAL] Location of St. Mary's Cemetery in Duval County Trying to locate the above cemetery as it relates to Duval County. 3. Yvonne, Thanks for doing the phone book lookup. It is possible that this person could be related, but the chances are probably slim that it is a close relation/descendant. Finafrock is another variation of the spelling of Finefrock. However, I doubt that they would have changed the spelling during the 1900's. The surname spelling seemed to be constant within this family group going back into the early 1800's. I'll make note of this person's phone listing for future use. 2. David Gray
    3. Hi Listers, I am new to the list. I am looking for anyone out there that may have a connection to the Finefrock surname. Specifically, I am looking for information on E.E. Finefrock (1863-1943) and his wife Altha Wise Finefrock (1871-????). They had two sons, Ira and Carlton. They were originally from Clarion Pennsylvania. I have found evidence that they moved to Jacksonville in the early 1900's. Ira served in WWI and listed his residence as Jacksonville at that time. I haven't checked census or other records yet. I was hoping to find someone on the list that is a descendant of this family or a lead to help me. Thanks, Dave _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. i have tried twice to send the transcript of the buford grove baptist church cemetery through both the duval list and the flnecemetery list, but they have not come through. so...i guess the only way to approach this situation is to offer to lookup surnames for anyone who wants to check and see if they have a relative buried at that cemetery; or i will be happy to email you a copy of the transcript to your private email address. julie thames howell jax, fla

    1. [FLDUVAL] Greenland Cemetery and Fulton Cemetery
    2. Tony and Julie Howell
    3. good morning lists - i've been taking advantage of some "slow time" on the various email lists and have been working on my cemetery notebook. i've now got information on about 96 cemeteries/burial sites in duval county. my process has been to take the list of cemeteries from lucy edwards book "grave markers of duval county" (that ed taylor posted for us some time back) and various lists from dianne's messages, and from the u.s. geological survey, comparing all of the names and compiling cohesive information as to their locations, duplicate names, etc. i have a question for y'all and i'd really like to hear your opinions on these two points: 1. we have one cemetery called the Brunson Family Cemetery. (its on the tax rolls as "Marietta Cemeteries"). this cemetery is located at the corner of Maple Street and Greenland Avenue (off of w. beaver st just past i-295.) McCargo street is the next street west of the cemetery. one of the lists of cemetery names that i have has a Greenland cemetery. no further information is given about it except the name. my question: what are your opinions as to whether the Brunson Family Cemetery could be the "Greenland" cemetery mentioned on one of the name lists that i have? 2. Fulton Cemetery is on several of the name lists. there was a note that it may be located across from 13241 ft. caroline road. i have contacted the (very nice) owner of the property across from 13241 and they have no knowledge of there being any signs of a cemetery on their property. i also have copies of plats and tax roll information on a cemetery located between Woodsong Loop Road and Beacon Drive. the location of this, as yet un-named, cemetery is about 1 block from Fulton Road. Fulton road runs off of ft. caroline road toward the river, where the settlement of Fulton was once located. my question: what are your opinions about the possibility of the cemetery located on Woodsong Loop Road actually being the Fulton Cemetery mentioned on some of the cemetery name-lists? i will be happy to provide copies of the paperwork/plats/maps, should you need them, to anyone who is interested in offering their opinions on these points. please let me know what y'all think. julie thames howell jax, fla
