Nearly all suggestions will apply to you, as well. Since the date of death is before computerization of records, you need the exact day of death. This will require a search of microfilms. Exact date of death can be obtained from a death certificate. First search of www.ancestry.com does not show Judith Martin, d. 1981 on the FLDI (Florida Death Index) database. The last residence does not necessarily match the place of death. Ruth

There is no one left within the family that knows the specifics on Sadie and George. My grandfather (very elderly) remembers that his parents went to visit in the 1950s but doesn't know if they stopped going due to health concerns of my great-grandparents or due to Sadie and George's deaths. The SSN doesn't have the "correct" people but it also lists that 98 percent of its data base is for deaths after 1962. So they may not be there if they died prior to 1962. I have used the 1901 Cdn census to confirm her birthdate with the Ontario birth registry. The more recent censuses aren't released until 100 years later per Canadian privacy laws. I don't know enough about George to find his parents to trace his birthdate. I was hoping that Hollywood would have cemeteries that were transcribed and indexed so as to come up with a list of Stevens that could be whittled down using her information. Thank you for the contact number for the library. I will give that angle a shot. Thanks again for your assistance. I really appreciate your efforts. Tracey

Surnames: STEVENS, HART, HARTE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZ.2ADI/1207.1 Message Board Post: Dear Tracey You would want to exhaust possibilities of obtaining info from living nieces/nephews and their descendants, related to your subject couple. If you know a middle name or initial for George Stevens, you might be able to find him, or his wife, in a census. If they remained much of their lives in Canada, the census records are more difficult to obtain, but try: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca) You could contact the Broward County Library: 954-357-7444 and "Ask a Librarian" --- to look up old Hollywood, Broward County, Florida city directories, say from 1956 onward. Information in directories could indicate when your subject couple left the Hollywood area, or died. If relatives also lived in Hollywood, the Librarian needs to know their names, as well. If you believe they owned property in the county, the following web site informs how to check deeds, titles --- and of course Probate cases --- if the couple died in Broward County, FL. http://www.rootsweb.com/~flbrowar/howto.html Name Birth Death Last Residence Last Benefit SSN Issued SADIE STEVENS 14 Jun 1892 Nov 1964 (Maine) (none specified) 005-26-4422 Maine SS-5 Letter Last residence is not synonymous with "place of death". George Stevens, with SSN issued in Maine (in case the above Sadie is correct person) offers a couple of choices on SSDI. If memory serves, Social Security began about 1937. Possibly you could obtain SSDI information, even knowing only the full name and exact date of birth: http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Hope this gives you some help. Ruth

On the SSDI there is a James J. Kearney 27 Aug 1917-5 Nov 2003 died Ft. Lauderdale, Broward, Issued in NJ. In looking the web page for the Sun Sentinel it looks like you can purchase an obituary online for $2.00. I have used this type purchase for other newspapers and it is very easy if you don't mind putting a credit card number on the Internet. You can print out all the obituaries for that day or cut and past the one that you want. I did a quick search in their Archives and the name does appear in Nov 2003 - forgot the date but maybe Nov 8 and in the obituary section so assume it is his obituary. Good luck. Here is the information I have so far: James J. Kearney (b.1917, d.?) who I believe was originally from New Jersey, married to Audrey Allen (b.?, d.?). I know they both settled in Plantation, confirmed by a known cousin named Bob Kane, who claimed them as his uncle and aunt. I was told that James was a retired FBI agent. James and Audrey had several children who are likely still alive today. They are: -James J. Kearney (b.1948), married a woman named Susan; their children are another James J. Kearney (b.August 23, 1982) and an Eamonn Kearney (b.March 5, 1987). They may have moved to Portland, OR -Kathleen Kearney (b.?), don't know if she married anyone -Carol Kearney (b.February 1947), married Pat Saba; their children are Patrick James Saba and Joseph Saba. -Candace Kearney (b.December 2, 1949), married Ralph Govin; they have two daughters named Marissa and Jamie, and a third daughter whose name we do not have. -Mary Colleen Kearney (b.May 1954), married Bill Flad; don't know if they have children. -Sheila Kearney (b.October 1958), married Raul Martinez; they have a son named Eddie who we know of, and possibly other children. Armed with this information, if anyone who visits the Broward County, FL board who knows anyone fitting the Kearney, Saba, Govin, Flad, or Martinez descendants above, please contact me at stkearney@optonline.net Thank you in advance! ============================== Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
