With the advent of RootsWeb's new Personal Mailing List (PML) it is more important than ever to use care in your automatic signature lines. When you list your surnames it is recommended that you space between each letter in one way or another. I am sure you have seen signatures that look like this: J*O*N*E*S S*M*I*T*H M*C*G*I*L*L*I*C*U*D*D*Y or J O N E S * S M I T H * M C G I L L I C U D D Y The problem is not space, it is repetition. It makes searches more difficult, because we have to read through too many posts that are not even related to our query. And it is really bad for the PML. So -- if you are using a repetitious signature with a list of surnames (or any word that might also be a surname), please -- use your imagination and change it a little. They will be related to genealogy in general, and using the mailing list AND your computer to find information that will help in your research.
