West Florida Genealogical Society Meeting Date: January 3, 2015 Place: West Florida Genealogy Library. 5740 N. 9th Ave, Pensacola, FL 850-494-7373 Time: 10:00 AM Topic: Land Records: Understanding and Using Them for Genealogy Speaker: Bert Outlaw Mr. Outlaw will present information about state land records, public domain records, land grants, and bounty land from federal and state government. He will discuss survey methods and terminology used to describe property in deeds. Also included will be tract books, with examples, to illustrate when land was transferred from government to individuals, and the use of deed indexes. Bert is a former military officer, commercial pilot, flight instructor, and teacher. He holds a BS in Business, and MS degrees in Sports Science and Aeronautical Science. He is President of WFGS and a member of NGS, FGS, and FSGS. Members and guests are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available at 9:45. Meeting begins at 10:00.
