Good Morning, I am researching African American Chisholms of the Gainesville and surrounding areas, I am trying to locate the parents of Theodore Chisholm, I have one living in Gainesville, and one that is supposed to have been born in Live Oak, around 1908. I am trying to tie these two together. If anyone has the access to the 1910 and 1920 census would you kindly look these two up for me. Thank you in advance. Antoinette
With the help of a couple of Volunteers, we now have the beginning of a Deed Search online. http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/AncientJ/FrontPage.cfm?BID=602 If you would like to help add names to this database, please sign up here... http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/CFDocs/Common/SurInsert.cfm If you notice any problems with this series of pages please let me know. It is a fairly complex set of logic that ties it all together. I was unable to locate any record of their marriage. Royal, Sadie and 2 of the older children were all born in Russia. If he was naturalized while in Florida, where would I write for the record? Was there a Jewish community in Gainesville at that time? would appreciate any clues. Thank you, Marietta Wellman, Alturas, CA
Hi List... I have begun to place online images of the typed Deed Index Books. I am also creating a 2 step process to add them to our database. The first step will be to enter all of names from each page into a form that I created today. The second step will be to compare the names that are entered in step 1 to the deed book pages. In this step we will make corrections and add dates, property descriptions and additional names to the database. I would like a couple of Volunteers to try out the new form. Here is a little information about the form. The Step 1 form is listed on the Volunteer Page as "Index Deed Book from Index Images, Under Construction". This form consists of a page of 40 lines for entry of Grantor Surname, Grantor Given Name, Grantee Surname, Grantee Given Name, Book and Page. Enter one form line for each index line. Enter only one Grantor Name and one Grantee Name per index line. Additional Names can be added in Step 2. Do not leave blank lines between entries. Each line with data must have a Grantor Surname entry. You should never fill up all 40 lines. Enter all lines from the Index Page into the form before you hit "Enter" or click on "Insert Records". There is one potential problem, the form sets a flag to tell the form to go to the next page after you have entered the page. This will allow 2 Volunteers to work on the same page at the same time and would result in double entries. I will try and fix this tomorrow. So for now pick a page other than the first page listed in the page menu. If you want to try and have a User ID, please do try it out. If you want to try and don't have a User ID, please fill out this form to get one... http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/CFDocs/Common/SurInsert.cfm If you have any problems, suggestions or questions, please email me. An obituary for Robert E. Abbott was in the December 6, 1994 Gainesville Sun; for Garnet J. Abbott it was in the December 12, 1997 Sun. I could not find a burial notice for either. I will send the obituaries to you as attachments to separate e-mails. If you want the photocopy mailed, give me an address.
Hi List... The Tax Rolls for 1896 were more complete. The pages were numbered and there was even an index of sorts for the book. The pages numbered I001 through I039 contain the index. http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/AncientJ/FrontPage.cfm?BID=599&CDLtr= BTW... George Morgan included our projects in todays edition of "Along Those Lines" at Ancestry.com. If you are interested in the article, here is the URL... http://ancestry.com/library/view/columns/george/5048.asp Thanks, Jim Jim Powell Jr Ancient Records Coordinator & Webmaster Alachua County Clerk of the Court Http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/archive/default.cfm
Hi List... I have the beginnings of something new on the website. If you have a moment, please take a look and let me know if it you think that it would be worthwhile for us to place these online. A little history... I am scanning "photos" made of these books in 1946. The books were in very bad shape at that time. These pages were not numbered, I have temporarily numbered them. I do not believe that they are in anything close to the right order. The book has less than 280 pages remaining, but a listing from the book indicates that there were at least 332 pages originally. http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/AncientJ/FrontPage.cfm?BID=598 BTW... Thanks to quite a few great Volunteers, we now have 22,699 marriages in the marriage index. That brings us up to the middle of 1934. We now have marriage book images online through June 1973. If you want to help index these books, please fill out this form... http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/Archive/CFDocs/Common/SurInsert.cfm Thanks, Jim Jim Powell Jr Ancient Records Coordinator & Webmaster Alachua County Clerk of the Court Http://www.clerk-alachua-fl.org/archive/default.cfm

Peggy, I followed the instructions but found a Windows utility named the same but there was no black icon. I did not delete it and then read Kathi's note. If there is a virus it must have the same name. Thanks for the thought!
