We were told our parents names were Sam and Gail. (Not sure if correct) We were also told when we graduated HS, that our mother had another child, and murdered her. Our father trIed to take care of us, "Vicky" remembers us living in the back of a Service Station where our father worked, he tried to keep us, then we went to Grandparents, then adopted to the Bordens, who took us to Nevada. We were abused, then taken away. We ended up in NC, We lived with a nice family the Crisseys. We were finally adopted in 1981 by a good family, I was 11 "Vicky" was 12. Our names were changed by the Bordens. We now live in NC. We are both married, and have children, and good careers. Want to find a parent or relative. Thought our father was registered on Reunion Registry.com, because our bdates matched with a Birth father searching for daughters, with our same birthdates. I am 31, and my sister is 32, we dont want to interupt anyones lives, we have good lives, but are curious, and want to know our heritage. DOES ANYONE HAVE INFO OR KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO MIGHT FIT THIS STORY?

I have since learned that my Mary E. "Eliza" Downing was the daughter of Thomas W. Downing and Susan F. Smilie; she was born abt 1854 in Montgomery County, Alabama. She died in Florida, but we don't know where or when. Eliza is also found in the 1880 Census of Alachua County, Florida as the wife (maybe called Elizabeth) of Ira (could read Ivan) Huggins. Their son Ira Francis Huggins was born 25 Dec 1883 in Columbia County, Florida. You are right, he is buried at Spring Hill. (All this from research of a "cousin.") Ira Francis had two brothers, Lovic Pierce Huggins (born 1884) and Downing Huggins and maybe a sister, Nina Huggins. Joseph S. Downing (your husband's ancestor) had a daughter named Ella Pierce Downing also born 1884. Do you suppose Pierce is a family name, maybe the name of William H. Downing's wife, Eliza? (President Franklin Pierce served from 1853-1857, so they're not likely named after him.) I would love information on the brothers of Ira Francis Huggins and their families. We are still seeking informaton on the death and burial places for Ira Belton O. Huggins (1845) and his wife, Mary Eliza Downing Huggins. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your offer to help. Since this is not my direct line, and I have established the connections that I needed, may I give your address to a couple of mutual "cousins" that we share. They are connected to both Huggins and Downing. Thank you again. Sara Huggins Preston

    1. Mary E. "Eliza" Downing
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BZ.2ADI/371.380.382.381.383.385.386.389.388.391.379.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I have been holding this message for a long time until I had a chance to see how Mary E. "Eliza" Downing fit into my husband's family of Downings from Alachua County. When was your Mary E. born? There is a Mary E. Downing, daughter of Thomas W. Downing, who was born abt 1854 while the family was still living in Alabama. Her name is listed as Mary E. in the 1860 census and as Eliza in 1870. Could she be the wife of Ira Belton Huggins? There is an gravestone at Spring Hill Cemetery in Alachua County for Ira F. Huggins. I think he is the son of Ira Belton and Eliza. I have not found the parents' graves there. If Thomas Downing is indeed the father of your Eliza, I can help you with his ancestry. My husband is descended from Thomas's brother, Joseph S. Downing. I have a list of the seven daughters of Thomas and am just beginning to research them.
