Hi Judy, When you get the chance, please post the name of the Dell book and its author. Hopefully there is a copy in a nearby library or it might be available on ILL. My interest is in Ann Nancy Dell (b. 2Mar1776) who married Thomas Colding, who are the parents of Louisa Colding. A book covering the Colding family gives Mary Brynum as her mother (possible a second wife of Philip Dell). This book is "Calhoun and Related Families" by Samuel S. Gibbons. This book, however helpful, provides no references. Thomas D. The best kept secret in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia? Maybe. The Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society headquarters/library is located at 6215 Sauterne Dr., off Blanding Blvd. north of 103rd St., in Jacksonville, easily accessible from I-95 and I-295. There are over 4,000 books and periodicals available to research. Go to our web page for more info: http://sgesjax.tripod.com. Or call 904-778-1000. Come to our January meeting, this Saturday, the 11th, at our library, at 10 a.m., and let's get aquainted. Ed Murfin, publicity chairman.
Hi list... I have been asked to share this with with you. Jim ***************** Jim, would you alert those on your geneology list who might be interested in hearing a talk by a well known Tallahassee cemetery consultant? Sharyn Thompson has helped survey and preserve many cemeteries in Florida and the southeast. Her book on historic Florida cemeteries is a useful guide for those who want to document these resources. Sharyn Thompson will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the Micanopy Historic Preservation Trust on Saturday, February 1, 2003, at 2 pm, at the Church of the Mediator, Cholokka Boulevard, Micanopy. All are invited and refreshments will be served. ****************************

Ceya Minder Reminder@comcast.net ============================================================== Have just discovered that this might be my Gill line that I have been looking for 30 years for??? If you connect to any of these in the list below, please contact me. I am anxious to verify if this is truly my line of Gills. Part of this family eventually moved (after 1848 or so) to Alachua--we think. Henry G. Gill wife, Emily _____maybe Roberts?______ Children: All born in Startksville, Georgia 1. Mary J. Gill, b. 1849 (This could be mine?) 2. Mariah Gill, b. 1850 3. Emily O. Gill, b. 1852 4. Henry J "Jack" Gill, b. 1854-55 5. Susan Gill, b. 1856 6. Donie (girl) Gill, b. 1858 7. William C. Gill, b. 1860 8. Sallie Georgia Gill, b. 1865; married Thomas A. Clemons in Suwannee County, Florida This family moved ? to Alachua County, Florida area-- which is now in Gilchrist County, Florida. My problem is that I have always heard that my grandmother, Mary Julia Gill, was the daughter of Jack and Emily (Roberts) Gill. Most of the above information looks like it could be my line; but, there must be some wrong information on my part or maybe Henry G was really Henry "J" and called "Jack" ???????????
Bradford Co was formed in 1861... ...did the Probate Judge in Alachua Co hear cases for a more counties than just Alachua Co in 1867? Thanks > What I found was that the particular land that I was looking for in 1867 > Alachua Co had become Bradford Co land in 1868

I want to thank all who replied to my recent inquiry concerning locating land in 1867 Alachua Co. I found Tom Parker's Levy Co site to be an excellent basic 101 on land descriptions. At least I now understand more about sections, townships and ranges. I forgot just how important it is to be aware of the years of county formations within an area of research. I found the online Alachua and Bradford Co Appraiser Website extremely informative, once I became familar with how to extract that data that I needed. What I found was that the particular land that I was looking for in 1867 Alachua Co had become Bradford Co land in 1868. It is a blessing to finally understand where my gggGrandfather owned land in 1867. May we all find more concerning our ancestors in 2003...happy hunting ! Peg

Peg, You will need a township/range map of Alachua Co. If you need to understand how to read the location, take a look at my Levy Co. site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~fllevy/archives/Landpat/landpat.htm here is a real basic 101 on how to read the descriptions, If you understand you should be able to scale out the general location on a standard map. Once I get home tonight I will see if I can find an old Township/range map of Alachua Co. and see if I can locate the property. This is a property description from 1867...my ggGrandfather died that year and the heirs petitioned the Alachua Co FL court for an order to sell the 200 more or less acres so the monies could be divided...my understanding is that the land would be in Sections 5/ and 8/...part of the description mentioned township 7...part of the description mentioned Range 21 S & E.
