Jerry Merritt The following information was taken from the 1914 application by Mattie Lee Bell, granddaughter of Daniel, to become a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of John B. Gordon, Chapter No. 1088 located at Muscogee, FL Escambia County in 1914. She was recommended by H. S. Cooper U.C.V. and Eva G. Vaughn U.D.C. She was accepted for membership April 18, 1914. The committee members signing her application were, Katherine Lang Tompkins, Mrs. A. O. Merritt, Eva G. Vaughn, Nellie Mullins and Hattie Lu Trammell. Daniel served in the Confederate Army for three years and nine months. He entered the service of the Confederate States at the beginning of the war in Company D, Regiment 15th Confederate Calvary, as a private and advanced to the rank of sergeant. On April 9, 1865 he was at home on sick leave. He had been home approximately 3 months when the war ended. Lawson E Jolly wrote: > Does anyone have information about the John B.
