    3. >From The Heritage of Santa Rosa County, Florida, page 49 (edited) Joseph S. Strickland, a Civil War veteran, and his wife, Lollie Aymard, lived in Bagdad. He moved his family to a 400-acre ranch three miles west of Milton and east of Pea Ridge. About 1894, he established the Strickland Cemetery on his property. He gave two acres of land with the understanding that no lot was to be sold but was to be given to the poor. Strickland gave lumber for the caskets and even paid to have them made. The first grave in the cemetery was a Mrs. Howell. Two Strickland children who died of malaria are buried there. Submitted by Jim Brock Source: "A Century of Service" by Anabel Simon Note: A Strickland family story is found on pages 490-491. It lists a son, Joseph, born about 1841, but I cannot confirm this is the same Joseph S. Strickland. Perhaps someone else would know that information. Judy Jolly

    3. Can anyone tell me about Pea Ridge? I try never overlook a clue as to where my great grandmother Patsy Jane Thornton came from. I have only been able to establish the fact that she was not a daughter of Arthur and Mercedes Thornton. Since my great grandfather John A McDuffie settled in the Mulat area of Santa Rosa County and the earliest record of Patsy Jane is on the 1860 Census for Santa Rosa County. I remember my sister saying Patsy Jane was born on the Pea River so there may be a connection to her in Pea Ridge. Can anyone help me climb over the brick wall? 3. Emily, There is no connection between Pea Ridge, FL and the Pea River. The river is in Alabama. Go to Google and do a search on the Pea River for more information. 3. For Emily and any others with Pea River/Coffee County, AL area connections... You are lucky to have a connection to this area, because the genealogy folks in that area are VERY active and have done a LOT of work you may find helpful if you haven't run into them yet. Here are a few of the links that might be of some use: http://www.rootsweb.com/~alprhgs/ http://www.genealogyforum.org/resources/AL/alcoffee.php http://www.enterpriselibrary.org/Default.asp?ID=587 http://peariverramblings.homestead.com/Pea.html http://www.linkpendium.com/genealogy/USA/AL/Coffee/ Hope something in these may be of assistance. Happy hunting. 3. thanks for the info but some years ago i went that route and came up with nothing. I did get a book from there that listed Patsy Jane as being adopted by the person who wrote the book but when i checked the adoption records the children she adopted had altogether different names. I tried to get her heirs to check her notes but they would not do it. So her family history like so many being written without documents and proof are in error for future generations to get the wrong info.
