    2. 8/8/07 Speaking of the fairgrounds and circuses, Quentin says when he was a boy, it used to be the at the end of Garden Street where Pace Blvd is now. The circus paraded from the Frisco railroad station around Coyle St. and Garden up toward town to Palafox and then back via Garden to the circus ground at the end of Garden Street. He and his brother tried to sneak under the Big Top. around 1934 or thereabouts. It was a big occasion then! Rebecca Black

    3. I remember the Circus coming through and what a thrill to hear the calioppe play. What a shame the children today don't get to experience these simple joys of life when they are young. Instead of their focus being on how much candy they can collect that is thrown we stood in awe at all the big animals. The Clydsdale Horses were put on a lot at Intendencia and Tarragonna St to eat while they were here for the Circus Emily Towner Sund ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 9:30 PM Subject: Re: [FL-WFGS] Pottery Plant Road > 8/8/07 > Speaking of the fairgrounds and circuses, Quentin says when he was a boy, > it used to be the at the end of Garden Street where Pace Blvd is now. 3. I have fond memories of the circus also as an African American growing up in Pensacola. My grandfather took me and my brother to the see the circus unload in the morning and my grandmother took us to see the parade in the afternoon and then to the circus. I remember the first time I saw and heard the Calioppe it frightened me so I ran. The last time I saw the circus perform was in Longview, Texas and I was able to give my children that experience. I think it was shortly after that that Ringling Bros. had that big fire in Hartford, Conn.
