I received a call this morning from Mr. Ates of the North West Florida Water Management District. He had gotten my name and several other names, including Bruce Rova's, from residents up near the Old Muscogee Cemetery as being involved in the care of the old cemetery. He was trying to contact all those who had worked on the cemetery to get their thoughts on the water district fencing in the cemetery. I told him I would make a pitch at the Saturday WFGS meeting so that any of us who were interested could provide feedback to him. The fence contractor is all set to install a wooden fence around the cemetery with three foot openings at the corners and in the center to allow people in and out but to exclude vehicles. After International Paper finishes harvesting the timber from the surrounding land, another fence would be installed around the perimeter road for good measure. Mr. Ates was also trying to find out if anyone was acting as a cemetery keeper for granting permission for future burials in the cemetery. I am not aware of anyone and suggested that the water district might be best suited to do that. Mr. Ates said that they were willing to take on that responsibility if asked. So, if you have any interest in the Old Muscogee Cemetery, be thinking about any questions or comments you want the water district to consider and bring them up this Saturday. The water district will hold off on any action until they hear back from us. We also have a great presentation on land records this Saturday by Pete Baucum. And donuts. And don't forget the 9:00 Problem Solving group that meets to try to solve problems or at least provide suggestions to those of us who are at our wits' end on some particular genealogical conundrum or other.
