    1. Re: [FL-WFGS] Survey - DNA
    2. John C. Bush
    3. I am a participant in the Bush Surname DNA Project, and it has been an absolutely invaluable experience. Of course, it doesn't eliminate the need for genealogical research of the olde fashioned kind, but it can narrow the scope very considerably. In my case, it proved the relationship among several living individuals -- and absolutely eliminated others as being related. This then enabled some of us "cousins" to share proved data and extend our research cooperatively. As a result, we have now established a firm tie to our first immigrant ancestor, Richard Bush, who came to Virginia Colony in 1770 from Stock Harvard, Essex, England -- where he was baptized 4 July 1655. We know that his parents were named John and Martha. Others in the Bush project have established that their first immigrant ancestor, William Bush, also came from Essex, but came to Massachusetts a few years ahead of our Richard's migration. We know, from the DNA, that William and Richard shared an ancestry in England -- perhaps they were cousins. And we have shown that there is a distinct difference between these "southern" Bushes and the New England (now, sometimes called the "Presidential") lines. There is not even a remote connection -- at least, not within the last 10,000 years or so. As a firmly entrenched "Yeller Dawg Democrat", that was news that warmed the cockels of this old heart of mine! If anyone would like to read a very complete summary of results of the Bush Surname DNA project, it is availably on-line at www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/g/a/gah4/BushDNA/Results.html If this does not work as a link, simply copy and paste it to your internet address line. To participate, one must be a male in the actual surname line of descent. When ordering the test, please spring for AT LEAST the 37-marker test -- and go for a higher level if you can afford it; anything less than 37 is too inexact to be very useful. -----Original Message----- >From: "L.L.
