    2. Can anyone tell me if there is a Genesee or Genasee valley in Alabama? My grandfather claimed in several census reports that he was born there in 1860 I've been unable to find such a place. 3. If he shows up in the 1860 or 1870 census, what county or district was he in then? There could be a lot of local names for valleys etc. that never appeared on maps. -----Original Message----- From: fl-wfgs-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:fl-wfgs-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of bobeddyper@aol.com Sent: Saturday, August 27, 2011 8:11 PM To: fl-wfgs@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FL-WFGS] Cemetries of South Carolina Can anyone tell me if there is a Genesee or Genasee valley in Alabama? 3. This is for Bob Eddy, but might be of interest to others... Bob, I think I may have the solution for you for your inquiry about a Genesee or Genesee Valley in Alabama. My wife and I travelled to Batavia, New York a couple of years ago in search of her ancestor that had lived there in the early 1800's. During that visit, I became aware that there was a town called Alabama nearby that was named after the state of Alabama. It is in the northwest corner of Genesee County, maybe 10-12 miles northwest from Batavia which is the county seat for Genesee County. People that talk about being from Genesee County, NY very often say they are from the Genesee Valley area. So, I guess the question may need to be, where is there an Alabama in Genesee County...??? Good luck in tracking down your grandfather, I am betting his roots are there in the northwest corner of Genesee County, New York. Hope this helps you. Sincerely, Bruce Rova Gulf Breeze, FL -----Original Message----- From: fl-wfgs-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:fl-wfgs-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of James Mashburn Sent: Sunday, August 28, 2011 7:46 AM To: fl-wfgs@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [FL-WFGS] Cemetries of South Carolina If he shows up in the 1860 or 1870 census, what county or district was he in then?
