    3. George Lockwood of Pensacola was born February 8, 1924 and joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He was killed in action on August 9, 1942 in the South Pacific and was Pensacola's first WWII fatality. A polished marble bench at Veterans Memorial Park honors him. (from research of Dolly Pollard Clark and from the Heritage Book of Escambia County, Volume II, p. 226.
