The following persons listed below volunteered to participate in the event at St. Michael's Cemetery on April 9 to publicize what our society does to preserve history in this area. Bruce Rova FLRova@mchsi.com Jerry Merritt jerrym151@mchsi.com Yolanda Falzone ylandy6@cox.net Charlotte Schipman cschipman@mac.com John Veasley jveasley99@cox.net We need one of you to coordinate this thing and see who will bring what. I had a temporary lapse of memory at the March meeting and forgot that were not having an April meeting, so we will have to do this via email. Items that have been suggested for our table are Copies of Footprints Some of our Marriage Records books Evan's cemetery books Brochures Membership applications, (Tell them to mail them, so we don't have to deal with money.) Newsletters Flier for the table and a stand-up plastic holder We will not be selling anything--just showing our wares and getting people interested. Tell me other things you can think of. Anybody can come, but I requested four chairs and a table. Somebody can bring a folding chair. Below is the information Margo Stringfield sent me tonight. I can't send an attachment to the list, but I posted her flier in the genealogy library at our last meeting. She first told me 10-2, but this letter says 10-3. I'll have to check on hat. That's a long time, so if others would like to help relieve at the table for a spell, let me know. Cynthia ----------------------------------- from Margo...... Group, I have attached the list of participants for Spirit Day. You will be numbered on a map so people can find you ( map to follow). Nancy Miller and I will be working on the program this coming week and it will be printed week of March 28 so we can have advance programs for National Council on Public History attendees to receive as they check in for the conference. People will also get a program as they arrive at the event. There will be a few more additions, however, this is the line up going into the home stretch. Please read over and make sure I am spelling your name/affiliation correctly and RESPOND TO ME THAT YOU GOT THIS AND HAVE CHECKED YOUR INFORMATION. I would appreciate hearing back from you all quickly so I know you are all in the loop and also so we can go to press without Nancy and me going crazy. Directions for April 9: Plan to arrive at 9:30 so you will be set up by 10:00 … people come early…. You will have a flag by your site. You might want to bring a folding chair. Some organizations/sites have indicated you need a table/chairs – please confirm your needs to me. You will have a nametag…. Pick it up on a table by the little house when you come in. Parking will be tight. Try to car pool. We are working on special blocked off parking for volunteers ( we will let you know where). Wear a hat ( and bring sun screen if you need it). Wear closed toe shoes ( we have made a real effort to subdue the ants but it is always a losing battle). There is no real place to secure purses or other valuables so think how you want to manage that…. Perhaps leave them locked in your car. Students, please wear clothing you would wear when representing UWF in public (no shorts please). _Bring a sack lunch_ ( drinks on site)…plan to stay pretty much by your site unless you need to take a break ( you can take a quick spin around if you want, but don’t abandon your post for any length of time…. People will expect to find you where we say you are. The event will run until 3:00. Please be there for entire event…. Again, people will expect to find you. If there are any questions regarding the cemetery that fall outside your research topic…. Please send the inquiring person to find a board member…. They will be easily identified by badges. FYI: We have a first aid kit on site in the little house should anyone have a mishap. There is also a restroom in the little house. We expect a nice turn out. Along with participants from NCPH who will wander through we will also have members of IMPACT 100 and the public at large. We expect a very nice day …. But i_f by chance it rains, come anyway -we are still on at the Museum of Industry (see address on flyer)_. I have attached the flyer for anyone who might not have gotten it. Students- know you will do a great job with your filmed interviews for the Pensacola News Journal series! Break a leg- just remember you still have to show up if you really do. Thanks so much! What do you think of "The Heritage of Escambia County, Florida Volume I and II? I had 50 copies of our application made; do you think we should have more? I will get all the extra copies of back issues of Newsletters. I have them at the Library. I will check with Lee to see if she has any extras. I can bring a folding chair or 4 if needed.
