    3. Are these the same files that were on the server at the WFGS Library when it was upstairs at the Gregory Street site? I volunteered to index the collection and make it through I think all of Alabama and some of Florida. Has anyone check that possibility? 3. Dean, My Commodore 128 does use 5.25 floppies. I've still got all my old disks. Haven't tried to crank it up in years, but, when I tried to run Sid's, I could not get into them. I'll try it again one day when I get a chance and tell you what happens. Will also bring some disks out for you to look at. There are lots of Sid's disks, but the main interest would be the set of 3 vital records books. WFGS holds the copyright to them. Cynthia

    3. I have brand new Windows 7 computers with 3.5 in. floppy drives so we can read and convert. Plus I have special software that allows me to peek at a file and see what it is instead of having to open it or find an appropriate WordPerfect, Office, etc. program to read it. We have back copies of WordPerfect 5.1, 8, 12, etc. and other software depending on what they are. I can certainly move files from 3.5 to CD or DVD, but the problem is that some of the programs will not open these unless you have the version that it was created in. I'll be glad to work with anyone that needs conversion or "peek" at a disk to see what is on it. Dean On Sat, May 7, 2011 at 8:58 PM, Bonnie Griffis Lewis <griffle@cox.net>wrote: > Ohhhh. Wellll. 3. PC 5.25 in. disks do not play on Commodores. I still have 5.25 drives here and at least 2 running 386 computers just to read and convert old disks. The problem is what Cynthia described. Perhaps there are files that are important to save and migrate, and perhaps not. If Cynthia wants to pass them along to me, I can work with them. 3. I have got Sid Thomes 5.25" floppies with his vital records books, library inventory stuff and other things that pertain to WFGS. I have an old Commodore that uses that size disks, but when I tried to play them in there some years ago they didn't work. I don't know if he's got a secret code on them or what. Internet Radio and FGS Each week, My Society will focus on a selected topic relevant to genealogy society management and the role societies play within the genealogy community. Future topics will discuss increasing membership, developing a social media and Internet presence, member services, and more. In addition, each episode of My Society will spotlight a member society of FGS and discuss their various programs and offerings. Using the Blog Talk Radio platform, listeners will not only be able to hear a live broadcast, but they will also be able to call in and speak with the show's host and guests to discuss their own genealogy societies. George G. Morgan, FGS Vice President of Membership and veteran genealogy podcaster notes: "FGS strives to provide information and value to its members and to the entire genealogical community. We recently announced the FGS series of webinars, beginning on April 30th. However, we are also significantly expanding our offerings in 2011 to include the launch of regularly scheduled, live FGS Radio broadcasts over the Internet. These program will feature leaders in the genealogical field, and genealogical and historical societies sharing their success stories and best practices. Listeners can call in with their questions and comments. The programs will be recorded and made available for free download at the FGS website. We are very excited and proud about this new offering and look forward to expanding communication in the genealogy community." Learn. Connect. Discover. 3. Bert, Some years back we used to video tape our meetings, but the fellow who did that isn't there anymore. We have not done it for quite a few years. There certainly seems to be a lot of interest in this topic coming from the various Roots lists to whom I sent the announcement. Cynthia ------------------ from Bert Outlaw Dear Cynthia, do you know if the speaker's presentation will be video taped? thanks, Bert

    3. Evan, No, the park is now full of houses. Just drive South on Scenic Hwy from Olive Road. When you get to the top of the first hill the park would have been on your right. It was just an open area under the large oak trees. May have been a few tables in the area, after about 70 years my memory has faded a little bit. Evan Hope to see you at a meeting!? P.S. By the way, after you went home from the WFGL that day, a month ago, we DID find the JANNAH book, and Peggy called you---remember? Well, it's NOT on the shelf again---we're looked and looked, and none of us can find it. We have NO ideas.
