    3. I thoroughly enjoyed the Pottery Plant Road exchange. It was Pottery Plant Road when I moved to Pensacola in 1954. . .and I still say "Pottery Plant Road." Thanks y'all. . . Dot Brown

    3. Hi Everyone, A researcher is looking for information about Florida Farm Colony in Gainesville. Has anyone heard of it? Her uncle was placed there when he was age seven and died there in 1940. The death certificate states place of death as Florida Farm Colony. She thinks it might have been a facility like Sunland. She's looked for information but has been unsuccessful. As always, thanks. Judy

    3. Peter, Thanks you for deferring to this lovely group of old and not-so-old Pensacolians and WFGS members. Jacqueline said it well, when she called it an "open forum," which we WFGS members really expected THIS message board to be, when we originally asked to have it set it up, if I remember correctly---correct me if I'm wrong, folks. I feel that the "open forum" also PRODS some of our more active brain cells into "jumping the gaps" between the less active processes, and nudges the memories out of the deep recesses, thus resulting in increased participation of the members---all of which can only be appreciated in an "open forum." The bouncing back and forth among multiple participants is the key to success here, I think! In addition, unlike the thousands of other Message Boards in the system, which are often "global" in scope, this WFGS Board addresses those of us who live here, are from here, or have memories of here, which ALL of us "long" to hear about---as in, "reminiscing!" Finally, if you will indulge us more local Pensacolians, whenever you see a "common Subject," e.g., Pottery Plant Road, just smile as you zap them to Delete File, and know we old Pensacola folks are "at it again." Thanks, sir, and I'll see you at the meeting Thursday! Evan R. Strohl

    3. Ok, as you all know by know, plenty of folks have weighed in in a similar vein on the value of receiving such messages. I therefore bow to the majority and withdraw, graciously I hope, my earlier comments. Carry on. Pete Young From: [email protected] Sent: Tue 8/7/2007 8:17 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [FL-WFGS] Pottery Plant Road For Mr. Young: For us older ones in the membership or on the 'list' this is our way of keeping in communication. Please bear with us as we get excited when a question is posed which we may be able to solve or assist someone. It is an open forum just for those of us who may possibly know a little about the subject. The name Pottery Plant Road is quite popular even today after so many years. We remember that the plant was near the curve, where the old fairgrounds were and the grand circuses that played such an important part in our early lives. We will never forget. If you grew up here you remember that first taste of cotton candy! So, again, understand and press the delete button when the subject is not of interest, however, you may miss something one of these days. Once we are challenged, or gently nudged, we give it our best shot. We never know what the next subject will be so we stay on the alert. We appreciate the announcements, dates, plans, etc., but let's keep it as it is being used. Keep up the interest and before long there will be an item in which you can participate with great enthusiasm! 3. Judy I wish I was there to help with the fight for funds for the library. Of all the things that can be cut from the budget this is not one of them.. I miss everyone in the WFGS and I wish you well. Our Library's in Columbus, are very up to date and very beautiful. I checked into how the library's are funded and they are funnded buy funds fron the state of Ohio. I know when I moved to Pensacola I was shocked at the poor library down town. It truly needs to be expanded,as well as at least one or two other librarys built in different area's of Pensacola. I spoke twice befor the council on funding the library when I lived there. 3. Judy, Saw your recent correspondence with Mr. Bush, and thought I should update you--- At the WFGS meeting today, Priscilla mentioned that because of the Labor Day weekend, we might move the date of the Sep meeting to the FOLLOWING Saturday---she said, basically, KEEP YOUR EARS OPEN for a decision on this. Let's see if Priscilla affirms these comments to you and Mr. Bush, when she reads this email---I don't know what things will "weigh into" her decision, but as you know, we will have the August Board meeting on the 9th of August, and maybe we'll talk about it then. Priscilla---are you reading this? 3. Another good state death index that I have used a lot is Missouri. The death certificate index is complete for the years 1910-1956, and certificate images are available for 1910-1934 and 1945-1956. This can be accessed at WWW.sos.mo.gov/archives.

    3. Hi John, The September meeting will be on the 1st Saturday in September. A gala 25th Anniversary Celebration of WFGS is in the works. Mr. Fischer, our library director, is scheduled to speak to the membership about the library and the genealogy department, and one or two from the board of trustees hope to be present to also answer questions. In addition, all sorts of special things will be included that morning. Nice to hear from you. Even though you call yourself a "foreigner," we still call you homefolks! 3. This is TERRIBLE news, Judy. Wish there was something a "foreigner" could do to help! Sara and I are coming down there again Sept. 19-21 to do some further Vaughn research. I'll be at the library for a time but will spend a lot of time this trip over at the court archives. Hope to see you, though, even if briefly. BTW, when does the WFGS meet in September? Would be nice if it happens to be while we're there. All the best.
