    1. [FL-WFGS] Scanning marriage records

    3. It would be possible to get those early Esc. Co. FL marriage books scanned if Mr. Magaha would approve it. You might want to discuss this at the WFGS meeting Saturday and see if some folks would write letters or make phone calls to show enough interest in the project. Letters might be more effective. The archives has a scanner large enough to do it. If Mr. Magaha does it himself, it would be up to him to decide what to do with it. But, hopefully it would be made available to the society to put on our Genweb page. There is a computer at the archives especially for genealogists' use. Perhaps it could go on there. We could scan the books ourselves, but I do know of anyone in the group with a large enough machine. Ginny Deagan was concerned about the size of the files and not being able to open them, but I was told that the data could be broken down into smaller files and could be opened. Write or contact the following: Mr. Ernie L. Magaha, Clerk of Circuit Court 190 Governmental Center Pensacola, FL 32501 Mr. Landy Davis, Administrator of Archives - same address Cynthia Dean

    3. Hi Judy, I just yesterday received the following e-mail from Jim Park. Apparently the John B. Gordon Chapter was in Muscogee, FL. Jerry Merritt The following information was taken from the 1914 application by Mattie Lee Bell, granddaughter of Daniel, to become a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of John B. Gordon, Chapter No. 1088 located at Muscogee, FL Escambia County. Mattie Lee Bell, granddaughter of Daniel Wilkinson, applied for membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy of John B. Gordon, Chapter No. 1088 located at Muscogee, FL Escambia County in 1914. She was recommended by H. S. Cooper U.C.V. and Eva G. Vaughn U.D.C. She was accepted for membership April 18, 1914. The committee members signing her application were, Katherine Lang Tompkins, Mrs. A. O. Merritt, Eva G. Vaughn, Nellie Mullins and Hattie Lu Trammell. Daniel served in the Confederate Army for three years and nine months. He entered the service of the Confederate States at the beginning of the war in Company D, Regiment 15th Confederate Calvary, as a private and advanced to the rank of sergeant. On April 9, 1865 he was at home on sick leave. He had been home approximately 3 months when the war ended. Lawson E Jolly wrote: > Does anyone have information about the John B. 1. Re: [FL-WFGS] John L. Williams and Martha E. Lowery family
    2. Lawson E Jolly
    3. Hi Jerry, A very brief story about John and Martha Lowery Williams is on page 532 of Santa Rosa I. It does not mention a first wife. It simply begins with his marriage to Martha. It does give a few more items of information that might be helpful. Date of birth is specific, August 12, 1845. Date of death, February 19, 1931. Per the article, his full name was John Lafayette Williams. The submitter was Romi White of Milton. Romi's story pretty much follows the more extensive story of John Lafayette Williams found on page 220 of Pioneering in the Panhandle by William J. Wells. Per Mr. Wells, Theresa, their first child (March 8, 1880-January 19, 1955), married David Quinn Hurst. Maybe this helps some. The family seems to have been well researched and documented by so many of those who descend from the pioneers in south SRC. However, the first wife is not mentioned. Let me know if you need more on the children of John and Martha and who they married. I'll be happy to send it to you at your email address. Judy
