    3. Dear Mr. Merritt, In case you are unaware of it, the FSGS has an active calendar of events across the state by month. Any Florida Society can post there, and it is a convenient way to discover who is speaking on what (not to mention publicizing your own events). http://www.rootsweb.com/~flsgs/calendar.htm There is also a "speakers' bureau" on the site, featuring speakers from all over Florida, which may be helpful. http://www.rootsweb.com/~flsgs/speakers_bureau.htm Hope this helps, William Zehner BCGS Web master > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Subject: > [FL-WFGS] Speaker list to share with neighboring Genealogical Societies. > From: > Jerry Merritt <[email protected]> > Date: > Sun, 10 Feb 2008 11:52:17 -0600 > To: > WFGS <[email protected]> > > To: > WFGS <[email protected]> > > > One of the objectives we are working toward in the WFGS this year is to > establish a liaison with neighboring societies to share information on > speakers. 3. Lonnie, I'll take names of anyone interested in giving genealogy related programs. If you know of any outside of WFGS and they are willing to have their names put in the mix, send them to me. 1. [FL-WFGS] Speaker list to share with neighboring Genealogical Societies.
    2. Jerry Merritt
    3. One of the objectives we are working toward in the WFGS this year is to establish a liaison with neighboring societies to share information on speakers. It's always hard to come up with a good speaker every month - especially if the subject has to be related to genealogy somehow. To that end, I am requesting those of you who are willing to be a speaker to a neighboring society to let me have your subjects and what sort of support you need to give your presentation (for example, a Power Point reader and a projector and screen.) I'll also need to have your contact info (e-mail or phone) to pass to the other societies so they can get hold of you to schedule you to give a presentation to them. I am already in contact with the Baldwin County Genealogical Society which meets at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month. As contacts spread to the Santa Rosa and Okaloosa, FL and Escambia, AL societies we should have the start of a nice network of speakers and opportunities to speak available to us in WFGS. Hoping to hear from a number of you excellent WFGS speakers soon so I can get something going on this. Jerry Merritt

    1. [FL-WFGS] OK folks - You have learned about GedComs
    2. L.L. Scott
    3. For all of you folks who have not submitted a 4 generation chart or gedcom, now is the time to do it. Please send them to [email protected] Please do this ASAP. Thanks FTM - Exporting a File to GEDCOM To export a file to GEDCOM, you must be in Family Tree Maker and the file you wish to export must be open. If you are not sure that you have the correct file open, from Family Tree Maker's Help menu, select Family File Status. In the dialog box that Family Tree Maker displays, you will see the name of the currently open file. After verifying that you have the correct file, continue with the following steps. 1.. From the File menu, select Copy/Export Family File. Family Tree Maker displays the New Family File dialog box. 2.. Click the Save as type drop-down list and select GEDCOM (*.GED). 3.. In the File name field, you can either keep the name that Family Tree Maker suggests or type another name for your GEDCOM file. It's best if the name you choose is eight letters or less and has the extension .GED. For example, you could type myfamily.ged or smith.ged. 4.. Click the Save in drop-down list and select the drive where you want to save the GEDCOM file. If you want to save the GEDCOM file in a folder on the specified drive, double-click that folder so that it appears in the Save in field. For example, suppose you want to save the file to floppy disk: Place the diskette in the drive, choose 3½ floppy (A:) from the drop-down list (where A: is the letter assigned to your floppy drive), then click OK. 5.. Click Save. Family Tree Maker displays the Export to GEDCOM dialog box. Make your selections in the dialog box. GEDCOM: Select Version 5.5 whenever possible. Character Set: Unless you are familiar with these options, use the default setting of ANSI. Indent Records: You can select this check box to make files more readable in a word processor. However, some programs cannot read indented records, so it is best NOT to select this check box. Abbreviate Tags: Most programs use abbreviated tags instead of long tags, so it is best to select this check box. (Tags are labels for the fields of information in the GEDCOM file. For example, the tag for occupation is "OCCU".) 6.. If you are satisfied with all the settings in this dialog box, click OK. Family Tree Maker creates the GEDCOM file and saves it in the drive and directory that you specified in step 4. (Hint: Pay close attention to what drive and directory on your hard drive you save the GEDCOM file to--you will need to know this later.) http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/support/imexport/imexport6.html
