Hi WFGS Friends, We'll shut down the computer in a few minutes and pack it to put on the moving van tomorrow morning. I wanted to say thanks before we do. WFGS has meant so much to me during our years in Pensacola, and I'll always be grateful for what I've learned. It has truly enriched my life. On the first morning I walked into the meeting room many years ago, I knew nothing about genealogy and was a bit nervous about how I'd be received. Would there be a place for a total novice? Would my questions seem too simple? My fears quickly vanished as I was welcomed by so many warm and friendly people, and they were smart as well as warm and friendly! My questions were answered with patience and respect. I was about to step into a new world - and a wonderful one at that! The early morning Gen Ed classes were a tremendous help. My thanks to Liz, Carolyn, Lee, and the others who gave of their time and knowledge. To learn about census, land, probate, cemeteries, and countless other basics armed me with needed skills. All the programs, conferences and workshops were educational - always top quality. My thanks to the countless members who brought it all to pass. You probably never knew how very important and valuable your work was (and still is!). To be asked to help with projects made me feel a part of the organization. I loved working with the Fisher-Pou and census transcription projects. I had never done that kind of work, but those in charge were patient and encouraging. Thanks to Roy, and to Jerry and Jenny. Thanks especially when I gave up proofing the 1885. I was embarrassed that I found it too difficult to proof, but Jenny's sweet smile said she understood and not to worry. To be asked to volunteer at PPL was the beginning of a true love affair. As I tried to help others find information, I found information myself. I learned so much and was thrilled at the end of each day to realize all the new facts stored in my head and heart. Thanks to Roy for patiently explaining the work and for telling me I'd love doing it. He was right. I've loved it as I've loved few other things in my life. I truly believe WFGS is one of the finest societies in the U.S. I know you'll continue to blaze new trails and continue to enjoy much success along the way. How I'd love to be here for the Family History Day in April. They'll stand in line, I know, and they won't be disappointed! Again, thanks to all for taking the time to help me. I'll always be grateful that you did. Your friend, Judy Jolly
I acquired a copy of the 1947 Memorial Edition of the Reveille. Did not find any relatives in it so I want to pass it on to some one else. The book is good/fair condition - no missing or torn pages. If interested contact me at [email protected] Curtis

Just to set things straight, it does not burn your hard drive. It inserts a trojan variant of the "storm" virus which turns your computer into a sort of robot which in turn sends out the virus and spam. It is a nasty virus and is hard to detect.
Normally we do not approve of virus warnings, but this one was double checked with Snopes. So I think it is worth circulating. >I checked snopes.com, and it is for real >http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp > > Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP. > > PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! > > You should be alert during the next few days. The WFGS Board meets tomorrow night. If you are working on a committee for the April WFGS Family History Day and need to have the board take action on anything affecting your committee, let us know before tomorrow night. A few critical issues to consider if the Family History Day is to be successful are: Are additional rooms needed to handle arriving visitors and get them started on filling out a preliminary ancestral chart? If so, have they been reserved? Do you need funding for the reservations? Has anyone been assigned to come up with the ancestral charts? Is funding needed to procure them? Have arrangements been made to have a specific number of census books available to use for lookups at the Family History Day? Have all necessary arrangements been cleared with Bayview for computer use on the day of the event? Has the WiFi link been tested if that is the network connection? Will Bayview computers be used? Have links been loaded into the computers for quick access to Internet sources? Has your committee notified the Material Committee of any needed items like Station Signs (e.g. 1885 Census Lookups, Information, African-American Research Station.) If you plan to make the signs yourselves, do you need funds for materials? David Reinhardt has already begun part of this process by requesting key information. Be sure to let him and his Material Committee know of your needs while he still has time to procure the things you need. There are probably many more issues I haven't listed here and you may already have solved these and other issues. If so, let us know so we can go worry about something else. We have only one more WFGS meeting before the Family History Day so let us know if your committee needs help on any issues. Jerry Merritt
