My last post didn't go through so I'll try again. Since there will be no collections for goodies at the next meeting, anyone wanting to bring a dozen cookies or brownies or, heck, something healthy is encouraged to do so. Coffee and some of the standard fare will be there but may come up short what with visitors and all. For Bonnie, Give it some thought and we can do anything you want during the 8 to 9 set up hour. I would imagine visitors would appreciate being able to navigate the site themselves with the webmaster there to answer their questions. I'd go with the chair located where visitors could mouse around to their heart's content. Lee, Thanks, ALWAYS, for your generous Website offerings. It's fair to say that everyone really appreciates them, and, no doubt, finds them extremely useful, if pertinent to them. I have kept a "Websites" folder in my emails going for quite sometime, JUST FOR THESE "website emails" that you have been sending for the last two or three years---at least! I have decided to make a Vertical File folder in the PPL for these Genealogical Websites that you have sent us over the years, and will print them out, and place them in this folder [the SUBJECT Vertical File for "Genealogical Websites"] in our PPL. Perhaps some one of us will eventually find a way to even ORGANIZE them after a while---States, ethnic, military, etc! ;=) Again, thanks to you, Lee, for your continued efforts to keep us all informed. And while I'm at it, can I ask if ANYONE else has some websites that they like personally, please send them to this Board. Let's share these things with each other. I feel this is one of the reason that we HAVE this Board---to share information with the members. Try making the SUBJECT of the email: "New Website/s for Filing," or something like that. C'mon, y'all, give us some of those favorite websites of yours---even the simpler ones---some of us may not know even the easy ones. And I'll start dropping them in a folder/s under "WEBSITES, Genealogical," in the PPL. Even the commercial ones, like < Footnote.com >, unless this would be "disallowed" by those in charge of our special Board [WFGS]. And, if you have other ideas like this, please let us know. Thanks. P.S. We are in serious need of more Volunteers in our Pensacola Public Library. Some of us a "walking wounded," have extended doctor appointments, chemo, etc. The time-slots for these positions are somewhat fixed, like Tuesdays 9:00AM to 12Noon, or, Fridays 12Noon to 3PM. We currently need someone to volunteer on Saturday mornings, and possibly Wednesday mornings. Plus a couple of other slots. There isn't a LOT to do, but we find little things to do like filing, tracking surnames, and mostly HELPING patrons with their OWN genealogy. The reward for helping folks is extremely satisfying, as you know. You don't have to KNOW where everything is, but we can help you feel comfortable about being there. Peggy, the civil servant there, told me that sooner or later [we hope in November] that this whole department WILL be going to the Tryone Library on 9th Ave, and we really should have a "presense" by that time---we don't want to let this opportunity get past us. Please, give us a couple of your hours a week. Or, tell us WHEN do you have some time. Talk to Ginny Deagan, Priscilla, JoAnn McKay, Evan, and the other names escape me. Thanks for listening. One more week until our next meeting and the big planned Family History Day. We have had media coverage several times in the PNJ - The Neighbors Section on 25 March, plus The Week Ender and Events sections are still carrying the event. The Gulf Breeze News also ran an article on our event in some detail in early March. We are listed in several TV Station Web Sites and numerous genealogy web sites as well and we have passed out over 150 flyers. Several members have spoken to various groups about this event, too. And that's just the stuff I know about. Signs are ready to go for the various stations and everyone seems to be ready to carry out their committee functions behind those signs. We have the Center's library, a welcoming room, and the auditorium set aside for our use so should be able to handle any size crowd that shows up. I know a lot of effort has gone into getting ready for this Saturday and those who show up expecting to find their local ancestors should leave well pleased with their findings. Perhaps some will join our Society and become longtime members. I will be running off copies of Pedigree Charts (4 and 5 generation) for the Welcoming Committee. If any other committees need copies of these charts, let me know and I will run copies for you at the same time. The Center's doors will open at 8:00 AM next Saturday so that we members can get in and get set up. We should be ready to go by 9:00 AM when the first visitors arrive. How many will show up? I guess we'll have to wait until next Saturday morning to know for sure. I have my own personal guess but will keep it to myself in case I'm wrong. That happens occasionally. Jerry Merritt

She lives in Jay. Try 675-4928. Her address is P. O. Box 242, Jay, FL 32565-0242, unless she has moved since retiring from the school system. There are other Linda Nelsons listed in the phone directory in Milton. Jacqueline </HTML>
Doris, AMEN!! I noticed those statistics included in one of the letters to all members. Whoever wrote that was totally out of line, and I should have said something myself. My thoughts, prayers, and THANKS are with your grandsons, nephew, and all of our service men and women. If some flaming, spineless liberal wants a political discussion, bring it on. But not in a genealogy newsletter.
