Sat. Feb 5, 2011 West Florida Genealogy Library 5740 North 9th Ave, Pensacola, FL 10:00 AM-11:30 AM Jerry Merritt will present the February WFGS program "Searching for Ancestors using the Internet." He will start with the basics for newcomers to genealogy showing tips and tricks that actually work, then will gradually move on to more complex search methods using little-known databases that can give powerful results. This would be a good program to bring a friend to who has been expressing an interest in genealogy but isn't quite sure how to get started. It will also be useful to old-timers who want to find far more detail about their ancestors. The methodology will use specific databases to demonstrate generalized search concepts applicable to many databases rather than being a click-by-click how-to on any particular database. If one knows what search techniques work best, they can use them on any database once they become acquainted with how different databases operate. The program will include actual cases solved by volunteers at the West Florida Genealogy Library. These cases will get into using slave schedules, filtered searches, and land records to ferret out ancestors and their family connections and will show how to build on a limited amount of information to solve hard problems. Attendees will be given an Internet access point prepared for this presentation that leads to many of the best and latest free major genealogy sites, as well as other free sites that are less known but none-the-less full of information.

Does anyone know where old school records or old school rosters might be located? I am looking for records for the following schools: Blount Jr. High School aka: Lockey PK Yonge Hallmark I haven't had any luck contacting schools. I am looking for any records that might lead us to more information on my grandfather. He attended these schools at one time or another. I came across a 1951 Blount Jr. High Roster for a Band Concert that my aunt was in and posted that on my family tree on Ancestry.com Thanks for any help! Tami Skipper
