Russell You do not say in which record your great-grandmother was found with these letters, but the most likely guess would be Cherokee, Chicasaw or Choctaw Freedman. I very much doubt that she married in the late 1700's and gave birth to your grandmother in 1842, you should be looking for a marriage in the 1815-1845 timeframe.
