I am looking for info about my maternal mother's father. His name was "Big Jack". My grandmother was born in Ashdown, Arkansas, married my maternal grandfather, L.W. Roland, an African American, and lived in the Oklahoma Territory until the late 1920s when the family moved to California. My grandmother, Cornelius (Gupton) Mays, also had relatives in Louisiana. Because she could not speak English and lost contact with her family, we are having a difficult time restructuring her life since she died in 1992 in Bakersfield, California.
