October 20, 2001 Cumberland Times News Cumberland, Maryland WILLIAM E FITZWATER JR OAKLAND -- William E. Fitzwater Jr., 70, of Maryland Highway, Oakland, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. Born on Dec. 25, 1930, in Swanton, he was the son of the late William E. Fitzwater Sr. and Estella E. (Reckner) Fitzwater. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, LaDonna E. (Bell) Fitzwater in 1960; one infant daughter, Doris F. Fitzwater in 1963; two sisters, Evelyn Peeler and Beulah Sink; one brother, Wayne Fitzwater. He was a member of the Crellin Assembly of God Church. Mr. Fitzwater was a lifelong farmer. He was also a school bus driver and a member of the Garrett County School Bus Association, Oakland, and later a contractor for the Garrett County Board of Education. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Oakland, and the Woodmen of the World #11, Oakland. He retired from Mettiki Coal Co. He is survived by his wife, Patience M. (Sines) Fitzwater; three daughters, Donna I. Wolfe and husband Terry, Mission, Texas, Norma J. Nelson, Nokesville, Va., Dora F. Hanlin and husband Art, Oakland; six sons, William E. Fitzwater III, and wife Shirley, Oakland, Ralph W. Fitzwater and wife Joyce, Oakland, Douglas E. Fitzwater and wife Susan, Oakland, Michael C. Fitzwater, Oakland, Thomas A. Fitzwater and wife Sandra, Oakland, Frederick L. "Chuck" Fitzwater and wife Kelly, Oakland; two sisters, Ruth Mayfield and husband Robert, Tulsa, Okla., and Corinth, W.Va., Lorena G. Smith and husband Leo, Deer Park; one foster son, Wilmer Day, LaVale; 15 grandchildren, Jeremy Fitzwater, Joshua Fitzwater, Nathan Fitzwater, Jennifer, Jessica Fitzwater, Staci Fitzwater, Justin Fitzwater, Matthew Fitzwater, Ryan Fitzwater, Tara Wilkens, LaDonna Wolfe, Jacob Hanlin, Sarah Hanlin, Joey Nelson and David Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Wilkens and Andrew Wolfe; a devoted friend, Ross Sines and wife Marie. At Mr. Fitzwater's request, his body was donated to West Virginia University's Human Gift Registry, Morgantown, W.Va. A Memorial Service will be held at the Crellin Assembly of God Church on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. Bruce Craig officiating. The Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, is in charge of the arrangements.
