18 November 2005 The Hutchinson News Hutchinson, Kansas Velma M. Wilkerson Horton DODGE CITY - Velma Marie Fitzwater Wilkerson Horton, 88, died Nov. 13, 2005, at The Shepherd's Center, Cimarron. She was born June 20, 1917, in Welsford, the daughter of Ernest and Pearl Riepe Fitzwater. A resident of Dodge City, she worked for Ferguson's, Montgomery Ward and Ford County register of Deeds. She was a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge, Dodge City, and a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Cimarron. In 1937, she married Chris Wilkerson. He died in 1960. She later married Ted Horton in 1961. He died in 1990. Survivors include: three sons, Larry Wilkerson, Dodge City, Darell Wilkerson, Charlestown, W.Va., and Jay Wilkerson, Wichita; a sister, Jean Fitzwater, Ashland; 19 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Dr. Jim Godbey and Fr. Jack Gleason presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City.
